    Description: This chapter focuses on Obrazy Italii, the best known work by Pavel Muratov, a Russian writer, journalist, critic and art historian. This work is a diary recounting the journey to Italy of the author at the beginning of the twentieth century; nowadays it is considered a classic text that provides a testimony on the way Italian art was perceived in Russia. Though it is well-known in Russia, this work has only recently received some attention in Italy following its recent translation. This chapter contains detailed and original analyses that compare Muratov’s translations with those found in Russian dictionaries written in the same period. These concern a selection of lemmas in art and architecture and the names of artists. This chapter shows that the language employed in this work cannot be defined as either specialised or standard, but as a mixture between the two.

    Chapter Solar Potential and Energy Assessment Data in U-BEM Models: Interoperability Analysis Between Performance Simulation Tools and OpenBIM/GIS Platforms (2024)

    Description: To evaluate the energy and solar potential of the building stock and address feasibility studies of building retrofit interventions information standards are required to ensure proper data flow from building and urban models to simulation environments. Energy performance data are gathered from different information containers and therefore the result of simulations needs to be shared in BIM/GIS environments to better address energy policies and decision-making processes. Solar potential and energy retrofit estimation, developed by means of urban models (U-BEM) are too rough to support a decision-making process, even if at a feasibility stage. On the opposite, strategic decisions are defined with reference to large building stocks that require a U-BEM approach. To increase the reliability of this kind of simulations the study proposes to integrate U-BEMS with BIM-based data that are aggregated and published at urban scale as average performance indicators of built systems. The interoperability problem is analyzed both for simulation tools that need to manage this kind of data and openBIM/GIS platforms that need to share performance indicators and simulation results

    Description: Among the geographical associations the Italian Centre for Historical and Geographical Studies (CISGE) was the one with which Massimo Quaini maintained a stronger relationship. In addition to the sharing of the study fields, Quaini was also linked to CISGE by the close and inseparable link between geography and history, the combination of concrete research and theoretical reflection, the plurality of approaches, the continuous dialectic and the marked interdisciplinarity. Elements that have always characterized the Centre since its foundation, becoming concrete in meetings, seminars, conferences, research groups, national and international projects and in numerous publications. Through a careful analysis of Quaini’s writings contained in the proceedings, the collections of essays and the journal Geostorie (which since 2000 replaced the Notiziario del CISGE) – a long and uninterrupted series from 1992 to 2017 – the contribution aims at highlighting the original, critical and stimulating contribution offered by Massimo to the four fundamental study streams of CISGE: historical geography, history of cartography, history of geographical thought, history of travels and of explorations.

Above all, the creative person is able to give quality to work and working life, survival and competitive strength, particularly, by virtue of his or her ability to respond with an attitude of confrontation towards complexity, approach problems originally, appropriately and realistically, strive not only to solve them but also to find new ones, to cultivate initiative and autonomy, to strive to go beyond the current, the "not-yet-being," the already given, the already accomplished, the already acquired, to be willing to tread unfamiliar and tested, even unknown routes and thus produce new and useful (creative, precisely) professional knowledge that is increasingly indispensable today to make the organization more competitive.

    Description: Intertwining biographical method and autobiography. Massimo Quaini had shown much interest in the ‘egogeography’ genre, practiced by different French geographers. The work traces back, on the basis of published and unpublished writings, some significant aspect of the intellectual personality of the Italian geographer. In particular, passages are presented in which he recalls his scientific and professional training and some letters that account for the highly critical positioning towards academic power, against the management of competitions based on personal relationships rather than on scientific merits (to the detriment of the discipline itself). Some original documents testify the interest in history and philosophy and the acceptance of historical materialism that has shaped his youth work and, more generally, founded his interpretation of geographical reality.

    Description: The guidance experience, pedagogically considered, is above all the process of identification, recognition and consolidation of individual resources of which the person is the bearer (attitudes, capabilities, inclinations, expectations, desires, projects), is the conquest of one’s own identity, the research of constituent elements of personality, the awareness of ‘being-different-from-everyone-else’. Within this theoretical assumption, the narration is a suitable placement as estimable and relevant device for self-guidance and transformation of the self. In the guidance actions the use of narrative, reflective and autobiographical paradigms can represent an effective aid in the direction of the redefinition of identity, empowerment and self-empowerment. Narration is the search for the truth about the self, or even more the process of re-thinking and re-design the self. It means to discover and achieve a deep knowledge about the self, to reconstruct one’s own life plan, is to de-form to re-emerge, to re-form it. In a broad sense, it is in some way to ‘die’ to be reborn regenerated

With a few simple operations the structure can be adapted for fattening poultry, breeding poultry and chickens; the capacities indicated refer to the European "organic" regulations adopted by Italy. The manual guides the constructor step by step, so that the mobile housing can be built even by those who do not have particular knowledge or skill in wood carpentry; a special section is devoted to safety during work. Finally, there are also a series of recommendations about the positioning of the housing on the land and the completion works necessary to set it in operation.

    Description: This text collects the revisions of some of the most significant degree theses written from 2011 to 2015 in the bachelor degree in City, territory and landscape planning and in the Master's degree in City and territory planning and design of University of Florence, Empoli campus. The theses cover the current diversified scenery of problems within the urban planning discipline, using very different methodologies, interpretations and perspectives of analysis. The territory emerging as the protagonist of the young authors' narratives is a complex and multi-layered object; it is constituted by things and relationships, set on the long times of history, aimed towards the present and projected into the future, and it continues to raise their questions, doubts, curiosities and also some fruitful answers. In summary, rather than chances for discussion on a disposable form of knowledge, this works offer chances for reflection and experimentation, and opportunities for the incremental construction of creative solutions by its authors.
