Description / Table of Contents: Barmer basin -- Deccan Traps -- Lesser Himalaya -- Ladakh Himalaya -- Aravalli.
Abstract: This book presents more than 600 eye-catching structural geological photographs and explanatory descriptions, from different Indian terrains. This book will enable easy identification of deformation features, one of the most important tasks in structural geology at the meso- and micro-scales. The book focuses on ductile and brittle shear sense indicators. This book suits for the undergraduate and graduate geoscience students. The book will be of considerable interest to tectonicians and structural geologists, given the enormous international importance of Indian terrains for exploration and other purposes.

Notes: The rate of n-butyl vinyl ether polymerization by chromyl chloride is first order in [catalyst] and second order in [monomer]. Added H2O (after a certain concentration) and HCl increase the rate, thiophene retards the rate, while pyridine inhibits the rate. DP is independent of [chromyl chloride] and increases with increasing [monomer] up to 1M, thereafter becoming independent of it. Both rate and DP increase over the range 10-32°C and decrease at higher temperatures.

Notes: A new polymeric azodye has been synthesized from carbazole by diazotization of its derivative N-methylcarbazole-3,6-diamine and subsequent coupling reaction with 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl-3-sulfonate-Na)-propane prepared from bisphenol-A. Its physico-chemical, electrical, and thermal properties have been characterized; finally, its application to the preparation of colored semiconductive films from polyvinyl alcohol has been studied.

Notes: The polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole (NVC) initiated by SOCl2 in benzene and nitrobenzene solvents was studied at 32°C. Rp is first order with respect to SOCl2 concentration and also to NVC concentration up to a certain NVC concentration, after which it falls. Rate and the molecular weight increase with increasing dielectric constant of the medium. The rate and molecular weight are depressed by the addition of amines, thiophene, and water. The degree of polymerization is independent of SOCl2 and NVC concentration. A conventional cationic mechanism has been suggested, and a suitable kinetic scheme has been proposed in conformity with the findings.

Notes: The polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole (NVC) initiated by PhMgBr in benzene was studied at 32°C. Rp is second order with respect to PhMgBr concentration but increases with NVC concentration (up to 0.06 M) and falls thereafter. Rp and Pn are depressed by the addition of thiophene and water. Modifiers such as benzaldehyde, butanone, and ethylene glycol practically inhibit the polymerization. Carbon tetrachloride and carbon dioxide, when passed through the NVC solution first, enhance the Rp and Pn increases with increasing PhMgBr and NVC concentrations, respectively. Rp increases with temperature, but Pn shows a maxium at a certain temperature. A cationic mechanism has been proposed where the polymerization is initiated by RMg+ cations produced from the ionization of PhMgBr by the Ashby and Smith mechanism.
