The analysis was carried out in samples filtered through the membrane filter (filtered) as well as in samples, that were taken after organic inclusions were precipitated (unfiltered).

    Description: This table contains physical, climatological, and isotope data. All lakes were open lakes. The slope was calculated according to methods/ranges proposed by the United States Department of Agriculture so that each watershed is described with a unitless slope characteristic, with slope gradient classes above 45 indicating steep drainage basins. The land uses were calculated from Chilean vegetative data (methods section) and values represent the proportion (%) of the catchment that is covered with this type of land use. Then, refer it as % snow or glaciers, that means that the zone is covered permanently with this land use. MAT and MAP, are mean annual air temperature and precipitation calculated from a monthly reanalysis product (CR2MET) with a 0.05° horizontal resolution considering the period from 1979 to 2016, and extracting data from the nearest grid point to the lake positions where we collected surface water. All samples were taken during austral spring/summer 2017 to 2019.

    Major and minor elements composition of 5 manganese nodules and 2 sediment samples merged with compilation of previous manganese nodules analyses (2023)

    Description: Five manganese nodules from a range of deep-sea and fossil environments were selected for this study. Most samples were prepared for bulk analysis by grinding the material finely with a pestle in a porcelain mortar. However for samples Z2140 (ELT36.039-BT) and Timor (Wai_Bua_A) the nodule cores were discarded. Depending upon the chemical elements a varied range of analytical methods were used: X-Ray fluorescence, neutron activation, mass spectrometry and atomic absorption spectrometry. All samples were dried at 110°C for the determination of H2O+ loss. Structural water H2O- was determined by ignition at 1200°C (LOI) and total CO2 was measured by a Leco gasometric technique.

    Description: The rock mass of fluvial and fluvioglacial deposits of the Late Holocene has been studied at the altitude of 1830 m a.s.l. using the palynologic, carpologic, geomorphologic, and geochronologic methods. It was ascertained that in the mid-Subatlantic period the area of the present-day beech elfin woodland was occupied by a belt of alpine meadows. Thus, the lower border of alpine meadows ran 370-400 m lower than the recent level, pointing to a rather significant cooling of the climate that occurred from ca 2nd cent. A.D.

    Rare-earth and minor elements concentration in manganese nodules and crusts from the the Southwest Pacific and other localities (2022)

    Description: The study reported here involved the analysis of 12 rare earth and 13 minor elements in 13 nodules from the S.W. Pacific; 1 nodule from equatorial N. Pacific (DOMES Site C) as well as 1 nodule and 2 crusts from the Hawaiian-Emperor chain. After collection the samples were oven dried, ground with a pestle and mortar, and passed through a 50 ?m nylon sieve. The samples were prepared for spark source mass spectrometric analysis by mixing them in a ratio of 1:1, with ultra pure graphite powder. Pure Lu203 was mixed with the graphite (final concentration 500 ppm). The chemical analysis was performed by Spark Source Mass Spectrometry. Selected isotope images on the photoplate were used to determine the Q-2 emulsion response curve. The mass spectrometric data are considered to have a precision of ± 15% (based on repeat analyses of the U.S.G.S. standard BCR-1).
