    Description: Hyaluronan-based hydrogels are optimal candidates when developing novel combined advanced therapy medicinal products (cATMP), tissue engineering products (TEP), and medical devices. The key physico-chemical properties of hydrogels may hinder, mediate, or stimulate therapeutic potentials borne by standardised cellular substrates in regenerative medicine. Parallel to delivery system or scaffold development, hydrogel functionalisation may be advantageous in specific musculoskeletal interventions or topical applications (e.g. viscosupplementation, soft tissue volumetric supplementation, rehabilitation topical preparations). Optimised combination product developmental workflows enable pragmatic regulatory classification of cell-based preparations. Such aspects will be discussed, as well as sustainable transposition to industrialised production settings. Hyaluronan benefits from extensive hindsight in numerous human and veterinary applications, providing a highly versatile backbone for quasi-infinite structural modification and physico-chemical property modulation. This chapter provides an overview of critical product design considerations and possible therapeutic applications of versatile hyaluronan-based preparations intended for cell therapy delivery, combined with optimised autologous or allogeneic therapeutic cell sources (e.g. platelet-rich plasma, stem cells, banked primary foetal progenitors). Particular focus was set on specific parameters directly impacting product potential in terms of clinical translation and effectiveness for topical wound healing or sub-critical volumetric defect correction and repair stimulation in musculoskeletal regenerative medicine applications.

    Description: Alterations in gene expression are essential during growth and development phases and when plants are exposed to environmental challenges. Stress conditions induce gene expression modifications, which are associated with changes in the biochemical and physiological processes that help plants to avoid or reduce potential damage resulting from these stresses.After exposure to stress, surviving plants tend to flower earlier than normal and therefore transfer the accumulated epigenetic information to their progenies, given that seeds, where this information is stored, are formed at a later stage of plant development.DNA methylation is correlated with expression repression. Likewise, miRNA produced in the cell can reduce the transcript abundance or even prevent translation of mRNA. However, histone modulation, such as histone acetylation, methylation, and ubiquitination, can show distinct effects on gene expression. These alterations can be inherited, especially if the plants are consistently exposed to a particular environmental stress. Retrotransposons and retroviruses are foreign movable DNA elements that play an important role in plant evolution. Recent studies have shown that epigenetic alterations control the movement and the expression of genes harbored within these elements. These epigenetic modifications have an impact on the morphology, and biotic and abiotic tolerance in the subsequent generations because they can be inherited through the transgenerational memory in plants. Therefore, epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and small RNA interference, serve not only to alter gene expression but also may enhance the evolutionary process in eukaryotes.In this E-book, original research and review articles that cover issues related to the role of DNA methylation, histone modifications, and small RNA in plant transgenerational epigenetic memory were published.The knowledge published on this topic may add new insight on the involvement of epigenetic factors in natural selection and environmental adaptation. This information may also help to generate a modeling system to study the epigenetic role in evolution.

    Description: Competence orientation opens up always new perspectives for teaching German as an Foreign and as a second language (DaF/DaZ) . The current tendencies of competence orientation presented here are include: - Specialist language skills in the fields of theology and medicine, - the expertise of teachers in relation to learning styles, Grammar and Intercultural Competence as well as - two contrasting analyses of the speech act of the written complaint and oral criticism. Without exception, the authors are enthusiastic and inspiring Teachers who are at the same time committed and open to new challenges, going the extra mile in research. The result of this close interaction of theory and practice are research results with direct application orientation. This is the claim of the series "DaF/DaZ in research and teaching". Christina Maria Ersch has studied German and Scandinavian Studies in Göttingen and German as a foreign language in Mainz, where she works as an academic employee. She has been teaching for several years DaF, is a certified telc examiner and teaches professional training courses on neurodidactics and action-oriented learning. Her research interests include the general didactics with focus on practical competence orientation and the intercultural communication. Die Kompetenzorientierung eröffnet gerade für das Fach Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache (DaF/DaZ) immer wieder neue Perspektiven für die Lehre. Die hier vorgestellten aktuellen Tendenzen der Kompetenzorientierung umfassen: • fachspezifische Sprachkompetenzen für die Bereiche Theologie und Medizin, • die Fachkompetenzen von Lehrkräften in Bezug auf Lernstile, Grammatik und Interkulturelle Kompetenz sowie • zwei kontrastive Analysen des Sprechaktes der schriftlichen Beschwerde und der mündlichen Kritikäußerung. Die Autorinnen sind ohne Ausnahme begeisterte und begeisternde Lehrkräfte und Dozentinnen, die gleichzeitig engagiert und offen neue Wege in der Forschung gehen. Das Ergebnis dieser engen Verzahnung von Theorie und Praxis sind Forschungsergebnisse mit direkter Anwendungsorientierung. Das ist der Anspruch der Reihe DaF/DaZ in Forschung und Lehre. Christina Maria Ersch hat Germanistik und Skandinavistik in Göttingen und Deutsch als Fremdsprache in Mainz studiert, wo sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin tätig ist. Sie unterrichtet seit mehreren Jahren DaF, ist zertifizierte telc-Prüferin und leitet Weiterbildungskurse zu Neurodidaktik und Handlungsorientiertem Lernen. Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen u. a. in der allgemeinen Didaktik mit Fokus auf praktischer Kompetenzorientierung und der interkulturellen Kommunikation.
