    Description: There is no available adequate information on the biology and genetics of the Caspian salmon (salmo truta Caspiu) living in the Caspian Sea with other species such as common carp families, sturgeons and etc., therefore we are interested in knowing whether selection for rapid growth rate in salmo trutta Caspius will potentially lead to correlated genetic response in body weight and length. The potential for correlated responses was evaluated by the heritability estimation, estimating heritabilities of body weight and length. The genetic parameter estimations were obtained for different stages of growth from 5400 fish consisting 27 unrelated families that reached maturity at 36 months of age. The parent which used to produce separate family groups had been caught from the Caspian Sea and spawned during the autumn season. The estimated heritability of body weight and length was 0.42±0.13 and 0.49±0.01, respectively based on differential and selection response between parent pairs and their offsprings. Several factors may have affected the creation of this high level of estimation, dominant effect, inherited from different breeders to offspring.

    Description: In this research, growth rate, blood parameters and proximate composition of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) cultured in brackish and freshwater were evaluated. Two treatments (brackish and freshwater) in 3 replications were investigated. Six 1.5 m³ fiberglass tanks were used for this experiment, containing 180 rainbow trout specimens with average weight of 47.2±0.1g. Feeding rate in treatments was about 3% of body weight based on water temperature and fish biomass. Total length and weight of fish were measured in 15 days intervals. After 135 days of culture period, some fish samples were transferred to the Lab. Blood were directly collected from the heart. Muscle composition was analyzed for proximate composition. The results showed that the body weight of samples in brackish water was increased significantly after 45 days of culture period. Blood factors including WBC, RBC, Hb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, lymphocyte, thrombocyte and concentration of K+ ions in fish cultured in brackish water showed a significant increase (P〈0.05). Muscle composition analysis showed a significant increasing (p〈0.05) in fat and dry matter in freshwater treatment, while moisture was significantly higher in brackish water (P〈0.01).

    Description: The Japanese threadfin bream, Nemipterus japonicus, the most abundant and crucially economic Nemipterus species is widespread throughout the Indo-West Pacific. The species has been studied widely for various aspects but genetic studies are scanty. This preliminary study contributes to the species phylogeography through the study of the genetic diversity and historical demography of N. japonicus populations from the Persian Gulf and Indo-West Pacific based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene sequence. Grouping of the data into phylogenetic trees indicated that the Japanese threadfin bream consists of two reciprocally monophyletic phylogroups with 2.3% net sequence divergence which may qualify as cryptic species: clade I, consists of two sub-clades (Ia and Ib) occurs in the Persian Gulf and Western India, and clade II, which is restricted to the South China Sea. Historical and demographic hypotheses were raised to explain the observed phylogeographic pattern and population structure. Among the possible key mechanisms, sea level fluctuations driven by glacial episodes of the second half of the Pleistocene Epoch appear to have played an active role in initiating major phylogeographic separation. Apart from presumptive Pleistocene vicariance, a trend of increasing genetic differences with increasing geographic distance (i.e., isolation-by-distance) and regional differences in breeding season were also proposed as possible alternative scenarios. Since the baseline knowledge on the intraspecific genetic diversity and management and evolutionary significant units is the first step before any action to be taken, the basic findings provided by this research are particularly relevant to conservation efforts, fishery management and stock assessment.

    Description: Hamoun fish, Schizothorax zarudnyi, is an indigenous species of the eastern waters of Iran, which is exclusively found in this region. However recently drought occurrence in the Chahnimeh reservoirs (a semi natural water body) making them vulnerable to extinction. As an appropriate action to address this problem and according to the 3 side contract between Italian Government – UNDP - Islamic republic of Iran Government and the Italian government financial support to reduce poverty in the Province of Sistan-Baluchestan through the reinforcement and dissemination of aquaculture activities the project was developed at the Hamoun Research Unit by the Chahbahar Fisheries Research Center to record the breeding normative of 1 g weight larvae for restocking and other researching purposes. 331 broodstocks of the indigenous species Shizothorax zarudnyi weighing 800-2450 g were collected from the Chahnimeh reservoirs in early autumn, 2006. From 5/3/2007 (the project is supported and communicated on 2010) , Ovulation was stimulated with three stimulators; pituitary extract (3-6 mg kg-1 body weight), GnRH-A (20-30 mg kg-1 body weight) and anti dopamine (10-15 mg kg-1 body weight) that was given in 2-3 doses to breeders. Of 169 injected breeders , some were injected On mid March of 2007 (12-13 ºC water temperature) responded to the injection 25% ,while the rest were injected On April of 2008 (14-16 ºC water temperature) responded to the injection 65%. In the present project of 167 breeders 82 were female and 87 male. Totally 30 female breeders released their eggs in different stages. 20 female breeders released their eggs completely, 3 breeders released half of their eggs and 7 released 1/3 of their eggs. The male breeders just injected in the final dose of hormontrapy and all were ready for releasing sperms however the ovulation in female breeders occurs between 353-428 h ºC and after the final dose of injection. Ripe eggs were stripped from the females and fertilization was done by the dry method. Fertilized eggs were transferred to veis incubators and troughs. Incubation period for eggs differs and larvae hatch out after about 910 days at an average water temperature of 12.5 °C. Maintained at 13-14 °C, complete absorption of yolk sac in Shizothorax zarudnyi larvae occurred after 5-8 days. Larvae were fed with a mixture of powdered milk and egg yolk in this stage followed by decapsulated Artemia cysts and nauplii of Artemia and then on formulated starter diets used for carps. Because the ponds were not ready, larvae were maintained in troughs for about ten days before they were transferred to two 1200 m2 earthen ponds where they reached a body weight of about 1 g. They were then handed over to the Iranian Fisheries department in the region. Larvae were fed with the starter feed SFCO in the earthen ponds. About 350 thousand larvae were stocked in two earthen ponds. Based on the results of present study and other studies we may conclude that artificial breeding in Schizothorax can be successfully achieved at 14-16 ºC in flow through systems using hormone therapy (combination of GnRha and anti dopamine) and larvae could be easily cultured in earthen ponds. However this species exhibits lower growth rates as compared to carps its high expenses could have an important role in economical feasible.

    Description: Nonylphenol (NP) is an endocrine disrupting chemical which has been shown to be able tomodulate endocrine system of various organisms by different mechanisms. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential effects of 4-NP and 17-β - estradiol (E2) on the immune parameters (IgM levels and lysozyme activity) of the teleost Koi carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio) for a better understanding of the immunereproductive system interactions. The experimental fishes were injected with ascending doses (10, 50,100 μgg^-1 body weight) of 4- nonylphenol (4-NP) and (2 μgg^-1 body mass) of 17-β-estradiol (E2) or vehicle during 3 weeks. After 21 days, the fishes (180) were anesthetizedand their blood samples were collected from caudal vein, and then they were dissected and sexually separated by gonad characters. The measurement of immune parameters in plasma showed that 4-NP induced significant increase in the IgM levels and lysozyme activity at dose of 50 μgg^-1 while the levels of these parameters in the higher doses (100 μgg^-1) decreased compared with the control group (p〈0.05). In addition the treatment, with 2 μgg^-1 E2 significantly decreased both the IgM levels and lysozyme activity after 21 days of injection. These results indicated that 4-NP and E2 could lead to disturb the balance of immune system with potential consequences for immature koi carp.

    Description: Caspian kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum, is one of the most commercially important fish species in the Caspian Sea, but there are few reports about the endocrinology of induced spawning in this fish. In the present study, 54 individuals of female broodstocks of Kutum were studied for quantity and quality of propagation index, during March and April 2007. Hormone treatments include: LHRH-A2 (1 µg kg-1bw;chlorpromazine (2.5 mg kg-1bw); LHRH-A2 + chlorpromazine (1µg kg-1bw+2.5 mg kg-1bw); CPE as a positive control (1 mg kg-1bw); Physiological saline as a negative control; and normal brood stocks without injection. For histological examinations, ovarian samples of non-ovulated females were fixed in bouin's fluid. The routine procedures of preparation of tissues were followed and the paraffin blocks were cut at 5-7 microns, stained with H&E and studied under light microscope. The results showed that the highest percentage of ovulated females belonged to group 1 without significant difference with positive control.There was a significant difference between ovulated females in the LHRH-A2, chlorpromazine and LHRH-A2 + chlorpromazine treatments (P〈0.05), while no significant differences in other propagation indices were found in any of the hormone treatments (P〉0.05). Chlorpromazine could not be a potent dopamine antagonist and the microscopic observations of ovary in non- ovulated brood stocks showed that the oocytes in these treatments were in the final phase of IV stage.

    Description: A one-year study (May 2007-April 2008) was undertaken to identify the echinoid species of intertidal sandy and rocky shores of the Qeshm Island. An intertidal sandy location and a rocky shore were surveyed in southern coasts of Qeshm Island, in northern Persian Gulf. Specimens were monthly collected along two 30m wide by 30 60m long (according to the tidal range) transects located approximately 300m apart, perpendicular to the sea, in each shore. Sampling was accomplished using 0.25m2 quadrat along each transect in the rocky shore, and by walking along nine 10×10-30m transects along each transect in the sandy shore. Three species of echinoids, belonging to 3 families were identified including: Clypeaster reticulatus, Diadema setosum and Echinometra mathaei. Identifications were verified by National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan. While Clypeaster reticulatus belongs to sandy habitats, none of the identified species were observed in sandy location.

    Description: In the past decade, the investment in fisheries development has grown remarkably in the Persian Gulf region. A 1800 km of northern coastline of the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and more than 14 islands belong to Iran have provided great possibilities of economic activities. In-shore marine islands such as Kish, Farour, Hendurabi, Tonb made a good opportunity for fishing and harvesting of ornamental fishes living on coral reefs. The Kish island have a plenty of coral reefs in around. The study was conducted on the Kish islands to identify various species of reef fishes on October 1997 to November 1998. Experiment was carried out at 77 stations around the islands. Samples were collected by underwater purse_seining, scuba diving, and using anesthetizes by injection around the fish hiding area. Results conducted that overall 113 species belong to 47 families were identified of which Pomacentridae, Acanthuridae, Scaridae and Lutjanidae are the most important in terms of number of species represented. 4 species of Apogonidae, 6 species of Lutjanidae, 11 species of Pomacentridae, 6 species of Nemipteridae, 6 species of Serranidae, 3 species of Teraponidae, 3 species of Sparidae, 3 species of Scorpaenidae, 3species of Scaridae, 3 species of Lethrinidae, 4 species of Labridae, 4 species of Gobiidae, 4 species of Chaetodontidae, 4 species of Carangidae, 2 species of Belonidae, 2 species of Balistidae, 2 species of Acanthuridae, 2 species of Tetraodontidae, 2 species of Siganidae, 2 species of Ostraciidae, 1 species of Monacanthidae, 1 species of Leiognathidae, 1 species of Atherinidae are the species presented in coral reefs at Kish island.

    Description: Mahisefid, Rutilus frisii kutum , is a cyprinid fish which is distributed from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan along the Caspian Sea. It is one of the economically important fish in the region. As part of the Iranian Fisheries Company’s policy to improve the stocks of this species, every year, fingerling of Mahisefid are released into the southern basin of the Caspian Sea. The main objective of this study was to determine populations in different of rivers. In total, 387 fish were collected from four rivers, including Lemir, Sefidrood, Shirrood and Tajan, where this fish migrates for spawning, in spring 2005. Thirteen conventional morphometric factors, 13 ratio and 12 Truss morphometrics were measured and calculated in this study. Conventional and Truss morphometric data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA Principal Component Analysis and discriminant. Average of coefficient of variation (CV%) of morphometric in males was 14.95, 10.28, 17.47 and 16.56 and in females was 21.35, 19.74, 18.25, and 19.74 in Lemir, Sefidrood, Shirrood and Tajan River, respectively, showing that all morphometric characters were significantly different (P〈0.05) among four sampling sites (populations). The first component of morphometrics 44.32% in males and 68.94% in females were positive, indicating that the conventional morphometric was good descriptor of the body shape variation among the populations, especially in females. The total cumulative variances were 76.6% and 87.8% in males and females, respectively, suggesting that this can be considered as a useful discriminator. The total cumulative variances were 64.27% and 64.21% in males and females, respectively. The first component of truss was 87.7% and 81.3% of the total variance, in males and females, respectively. The results of the present study suggest that each sampling site represents independent population in each river.

    Description: Most minerals, occurring in aqueous environments, play a key role in the survival rate of aquatic living organisms. However, life situation of the living organisms would be under attack when the contents of these elements exceed than the specified limit because of various reasons. Bioaccumulation of the elements in living organisms and their excess concentration than standard limit would result in acute and chronic biological impacts in their tissues. ... The experiment was performed in fish farming center of Arab Kheil at the countryside of Amol city for 90 days from July to October 2010. Four diets were prepared for 204 rainbow trout samples. Experimental feeding diets included: the control treatment which contained 29 mg kg^-1 of manganese. This level of manganese occurs naturally in the principle composition of the feeding diets. Treatments 1, 2 and 3 contained 48, 78, and 98 mg of manganese sulphate per kg of food, respectively. ... According to the obtained results, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between manganese concentrations in liver, kidney, fatty tissues including muscle of rainbow trout. Manganese mean content is less than the standard limit of FAO which contradicts any interdict in the consumption of rainbow trout. Significant differences were observed among manganese contents in treated fish samples and the control. Manganese content in kidney tissues showed the highest level than other tissues.
