Description: In order to study the stress state and stability of a spiral tube and actuator for controlled extension and retraction (STACER) during the launching process of a satellite, finite element software was applied to establish a finite element model of STACER via the explicit dynamics analysis method. The influence of top rod’s radius on the gathering or so called packaging process of STACER was analyzed. The effects of surface friction coefficient and acceleration on the stability were studied during the gathering process. It was found that the top rod radius directly affects the gathering load and the deformation around the rivet of the STACER. When the spring reel is gathered, the friction coefficient between contact surfaces, and the acceleration, work on the stability of STACER. The stability of STACER can be maintained by a friction coefficient with small fluctuations. An unstable state occurs after the STACER is gathered when the direction of acceleration is parallel to the axial direction of the rivet. A mechanical test on the STACER is conducted to verify the reliability and accuracy of the model. The force trend is similar between the finite element result and experimental result. This work will contribute to the theoretical development for designing the radius of the top rod of the spring reel, the surface friction coefficient of the STACER and the position of the spring reel during the launch process of satellites.

Description: The rate of brucellosis, a zoonotic disease, has rapidly increased in humans brucellosis(HB) in recent years. In 1950–2018, a total of 684,380 HB cases (median 2274/year (interquartile range (IQR) 966–8325)) were reported to the National Infectious Disease Surveillance System in mainland China. The incidence of HB peaked in 2014 (4.32/100,000), and then showed a downward trend; we predict that it will maintain a steady downward trend in 2019–2020. Since 2015, the incidence of HB has shown opposite trends in the north and south of China; rates in the north have fallen and rates in the south have increased. In 2004–2018, the most significant increases in incidence of HB were in Yunnan (IQR 0.002–0.463/100,000), Hubei (IQR 0.000–0.338/100,000), and Guangdong (IQR 0.015–0.350/100,000). The areas where HB occurs have little overlap with areas with high per capita GDP in China. The “high–high” clusters of HB are located in northeastern China (Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shanxi, and Gansu), and the “low–low” clusters of HB are located in southern China (Yunnan, Jiangxi, Shanghai, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Guizhou, and Hunan). In recent years, the incidence of HB in China has been controlled to some extent, but the incidence of HB has increased in southern China, and the disease has spread geographically in China from north to south. Further research is needed to address this change and to continue to explore the relationship between the incidence of HB and relevant factors.

Description: The paper aimed to find an accurate and fast model to study the electromagnetic (EM) thermal (TH) filed coupling calculation for the TH analysis in the flux switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine. It is extremely important to know the coupling mechanism between the EM field and TH field for the designers and users of the FSPM machines. Firstly, in order to study the EM properties of the silicon steel sheet with the temperature, the Epstein frame experiment was set up, where the effect of dc magnetic bias on the core loss is also considered. In order to save the computation time, the bidirectional coupling model based on 2D finite element (FE) EM field and 3D asymmetric minimum element TH field is established, and the steady state and transient TH fields are calculated, respectively. For the transient bidirectional coupling of EM field and TH field, a method based on the adaptive adjustment calculation step is adopted to improve the computing speed. The temperature rise experiment of the prototype was carried out to verify the accuracy of the proposed coupling model. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results.

Description: Whispering gallery mode micro-bubble optical cavities are asymmetrical ellipsoids in experimental settings, which makes their modes nondegenerate. A complicated dense spectrum is thus generated. Overlapping and coupled resonances exist in this dense spectrum. In this study, we determined that the orthogonal demodulation Pound-Drever-Hall technique can be used to analyze complicated resonances. Using this method, overlapping weak and strong coupling resonances can be analyzed. Compared to spectrum simplification and the ab initio theory of Fano resonances, this method is repeatable, simple, sensitive, and accurate. The method can increase the measurement range of differential resonance sensing, thus allowing the differential sensing of overlapped resonances.

Description: Microseismic signal denoising is of great significance for P wave, S wave first arrival picking, source localization, and focal mechanism inversion. Therefore, an Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), Compressed Sensing (CS), and Soft-thresholding (ST) combined EMD_CS_ST denoising method is proposed. First, through EMD decomposition of the noise signal, a series of Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMF) from high frequency to low frequency are obtained. By calculating the correlation coefficient between each IMF and the original signal, the boundary component between the signal and the noise was identified, and the boundary component and its previous components were sparsely processed in the discrete wavelet transform domain to obtain the original sparse coefficient θ. Second, θ is filtered by ST to get the reconstruction coefficient θnew after denoising. Then, CS was used to recover and reconstruct θnew to get the denoised IMFnew component and then recombined with the remaining IMF components to get the signal after denoising. In the simulation experiment, the denoising process of EMD_CS_ST method is introduced in detail, and the denoising ability of EMD_CS_ST, DWT, EEMD, and VMD_DWT under 10 different noise levels is discussed. The signal-to-noise ratio, signal standard deviation, correlation coefficient, waveform diagram, and spectrogram before and after denoising are compared and analyzed. Moreover, the signals obtained from the underground cavern of the Shuangjiangkou hydropower station were denoised by the EMD_CS_ST method, and the signals before and after denoising were analyzed by time-frequency spectrum. These results show that the proposed method has better denoising ability.

Description: A fast and highly sensitive polymer nano-mechanical thermal analysis method for determining the melting temperature (Tm) of polymer microwires was proposed. In this method, a small-size, low-cost quartz tuning fork was used as a piezoelectric transducer to analyze the thermodynamics of polymer microwires at the nanogram level without changing its own properties. Due to the thin wire sample, which has a length of 1.2 mm and a diameter of ~5 µm, which is bridged across the prongs of the tuning fork, the nanogram-level sample greatly reduces the thermal equilibrium time for the measurement, resulting in a fast analysis for the melting temperature of the polymer sample. Compared with the traditional method, the analysis method based on the quartz enhanced conductivity spectrum (QECS) does not require annealing before measurement, which is an essential process for conventional thermal analysis to reduce the hardness, refine the grain, and eliminate the residual stress. In this work, the melting temperatures of three of the most commonly used polymers, namely polymers polymethyl methacrylate, high-density polyethylene, and disproportionated rosin, were obtained under the temperature from room temperature to 〉180 °C, proving the QECS method to be a useful tool for nano-mechanical thermal analysis.

Description: The heterogeneous fracture geometry induced by the presence of roughness and shearing complicates the fracture flow. This paper presents a numerical investigation of the non-Darcian flow characteristics of rough-walled fractures during shear processes. A series of fracture flow simulations were performed on four types of fractures with different joint roughness coefficients (JRCs), and the different shear displacements were imitated by degrees of mismatch on two fracture surfaces. The results show that the disorder of fracture geometries and the increase in flow rate are the main causes for the emergence of an eddy flow region, which can significantly reduce the fracture conductivity and change the fracture flow from linear to nonlinear. The Forchheimer equation provides a good model for the nonlinear relationship between the hydraulic gradient and the flow rate in the fracture flow. When the shear displacement or JRC increased, the linear permeability coefficient kv decreased, while the nonlinear coefficient β increased. A three-parameter equation of β was used to examine the inertial effect induced by the fracture roughness JRC and the variation coefficient of aperture distribution σs/em. The critical Reynolds number was a combined effect of aperture, viscous permeability, and inertial resistance, assuming the flow becomes non-Darcian when the inertial part is greater than 10%.

Description: Coals used for power plants normally have different ash contents, and the breakage of coals by the ball-and-race mill or roller mill is an energy-intensive process. Grinding phenomena in mill of power plants is complex, and it is also not the same with ideal grinding tests in labs. The interaction among various coals would result in changes of grinding behaviors and energy consumption characterization if compared with those of single breakage. In this study, anthracite and bituminous coal of different ash contents were selected to be heterogeneously ground. Quantitation of components in products was realized using the relation between sulfur content of the mixture and mass yield of one component in the mixture. Product fineness t10 of the component was determined, and split energy was calculated on the premise of specific energy balance and energy-size reduction model by a genetic algorithm. Experimental results indicate that breakage rate and product fineness t10 of the mixture decrease with the increase of hard anthracite content in the mixture. Unlike the single breakage, t10 of anthracite in heterogeneous grinding is improved dramatically, and bituminous coal shows the opposite trend. The interaction between components results in the decrease of the specific energy of the mixture if compared with the mass average one of components in single breakage. Breakage resistance of hard anthracite decreases due to the addition of soft bituminous coal, and grinding energy efficiency of anthracite is also improved compared with that of single grinding.

Description: Ningxiang pigs, a fat-type pig, are native to Ningxiang County in Hunan Province, with thousands of years of breeding history. This study aims to explore the expression profiles and functional networks on messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the liver. Liver tissue of Ningxiang piglets was collected at 30, 90, 150, and 210 days after birth (four development stages), and the mRNA and lncRNA expression was profiled. Compared to mRNA and lncRNA expression profiles, most differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) were upregulated at 30 days; however, most DElncRNAs were downregulated at 210 days. Via Short Time-series Expression Miner (STEM) analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), a complex interaction between mRNAs and lncRNAs was identified, indicating that lncRNAs may be a critical regulatory element for mRNAs. One module of genes in particular (module profile 4) was related to fibril organization, vasculogenesis, GTPase activator activity, and regulation of kinase activity. The mRNAs and lncRNAs in module profile 4 had a similar pattern of expression, indicating that they have functional and regulatory relationships. Only CAV1, PACSIN2, and CDC42 in the particular mRNA profile 4 were the target genes of lncRNAs in that profile, which shows the possible regulatory relationship between lncRNAs and mRNAs. The expression of these genes and lncRNAs in profile 4 was the highest at 30 days, and it is believed that these RNAs may play a critical role during the suckling period in order to meet the dietary requirements of piglets. In the lncRNA–mRNA co-expression network, the identified gene hubs and associated lncRNAs were shown to be involved in saccharide, lipid, and glucose metabolism, which may play an important role in the development and health of the liver. This result will lead to further investigation of liver lncRNA functions at various stages of development in Ningxiang pigs.

Description: Along with industry upgrading and urbanization, the agricultural industry in China has been experiencing a stage of rapid development, on the bright side. On the other side, ecological environment deterioration and resource scarcity have become prevalent. Called by the current situation, circular agriculture arises as a direction for the industry to achieve sustainable development. This study develops an evaluation indicator system for circular agriculture using an entropy method, and evaluates factors that could drive the Chinese agricultural industry to achieve better performance. We employ the method using provincial data collected from the province of Henan, in which around 10% of the total grain in China is produced. It was found that agricultural technology and water resources per capita are positively related to circular performance in agriculture. In contrast, urbanization and arable land per capita are negatively related to circular performance. This article provides support to the government in policy-making related to the improvement of circular agricultural performance.
