    Description / Table of Contents: The Influence of Substituents on Sigmatropic Reactions, II. 13C D. N.M.R. Investigations Concerning the Kinetics of the Valence Isomerization of 3,4-Homotropilidene and its 3-Methyl DerivativeThe barrier of the degenerated valence isomerization in 3,4-homotropilidene (1) was determined by complete line shape analysis of the 13C d.n.m.r. spectra. The values (Ea = 13.03 ± 0.10 kcal/mole, log A = 11.99 ± 0.06, ΔH≠ = 12.34 ± 0.09 kcal/mole, ΔS≠ = -5.9 ± 0.6 Clausis und Δ298≠ = 14.1 ± 0.2 kcal/mole) are in good agreement with the results of the 1H d.n.m.r. line shape analysis of the octadeuterio derivative 2. The influence of a methyl group in 1- or 3-position is small (ΔG298≠ = 13.8 bzw. 14.9 kcal/mole).
    Notes: Die Barriere der degenerierten Valenzisomerisierung in 3,4-Homotropiliden (1) wurde durch Linien-formanalyse der 13C-DNMR-Spektren bestimmt. Die Daten (Ea = 13.03 ± 0.10 kcal/mol, log A = 11.99 ± 0.06, ΔH≠ = 12.34 ± 0.09 kcal/mol, ΔS≠ = -5.9 ± 0.6 Clausius und ΔG298≠ = 14.1 ± 0.2 kcal/mol) stehen in guter Übereinstimmung mit den Ergebnissen der Linieformanalyse des 1H-NMR-Spektrums des Octadeuterioderivates 2. Der Einfluß einer Methylgruppe in 1-bzw. 3-Stellung auf die Barriere ist klein (ΔG298≠ = 13.8 bzw. 14.9 kcal/mol).

    Description / Table of Contents: By grafting styrene-acrylonitrile onto poly(butadiene) latex graft polymers of different structure are synthesized. During the graft reaction the monomer to poly(butadiene) ratio and the conversion were varied and the influence of these variations on the degree of grafting and the molecular weight of grafted chains was studied. By mixing these graft polymers of different graft structure (graft density) with styrene-acrylonitrile-copolymers, ABS-materials are formed with a rubber content of 17.5% by weight.Glass transition temperature (Tg) of the elastomer phase of these ABS materials as well as notched impact values correlate with graft density of the rubber component.
    Notes: Durch Pfropfung von Styrol-Acrylnitril auf Polybutadien in Emulsion werden Pfropfpolymerisate unterschiedlicher Pfropfstruktur hergestellt. Es wird der Einfluß des Verhältnisses von Monomerem zu Polybutadien auf die Geschwindigkeit der Pfropfreaktion, auf den Pfropfgrad und die Molekulargewichte und der des Umsatzes auf die Molekulargewichte und den Pfropfgrad der Pfropfpolymerisate untersucht.An Hand von Messungen der Glasübergangstemperatur der Kautschukphasen in ABS-Materialien, die aus den so hergestellten Pfropfpolymerisaten erhalten wurden, und an Hand von Messungen der Kerbschlagzähigkeit werden die Bedeutung der Struktur der Pfropfhülle für die Eigenschaften von ABS-Polymerisaten diskutiert.

    Notes: ABS systems which differ distinctly in particle size and degree of grafting were prepared and investigated by dynamic mechanical measurements as function of temperature in the glass transition region of the rubber phase. Variation of rubber content within different sample series results in effects which were mainly referred to thermal stresses as consequence of phase interactions. Basic aspects of the deformation behavior of some of these ABS systems are studied by mechanical and morphological methods, and the operation modes of the component of a bimodal/bigraft-system concerning toughness are discussed.

    Notes: The influence of mass diffusion on substrate and positional selectivities is discussed. A simple model is developed which allows a description and simulation of the coupling of the mass diffusion with the chemical reaction during the mixing process of two reactant solutions. For competitive, consecutive reactions and competitive, parallel reactions the general behaviour and the dependence of the product selectivity on diffusion effects is demonstrated.

    Notes: A simple mixing-reaction model has been developed [1] which allows a description and simulation of the coupling of the mass diffusion with the chemical reaction during the mixing process of two miscible reactant solutions. For competitive, consecutive as well as for competitive, parallel second-order reactions the general behaviour and the dependence of the product distribution on diffusion effects are calculated for semi-continuous reaction conditions using various simplifying assumptions. The usefulness of these assumptions is discussed with reference to the calculated predictions of two versions of the mixing-reaction model.

The structures of 2 and 11 are confirmed by further spectroscopic and chemical investigations.
    Notes: Phenylisocyanid reagiert im Molverhältnis 1 : 1 mit 1-Aryl-4-benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-pyrrol-2,3-dionen 1 zu den l-Oxa-5-azaspiro[2.4]heptan-4-onen 2, mit 4-Benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-2,3-dion (10) entsteht das ringerweiterte Pyran-2,4-dion-Derivat 11. Die Ergebnisse der spektroskopischen Untersuchungen einerseits sowie chemische Folgereaktionen andererseits werden als Strukturbeweise für 2 bzw. 11 geltend gemacht.

    Description / Table of Contents: Syntheses of Heterocyclic Compounds, CCV. - Reactions of Cyclic Oxalyl Compounds, XX. - Reactions of 4-Benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-2,3-dione with Aliphatic NitrilesThe reaction of 4-benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-2,3-dione (1) with butyro-. isobutyro-, and phenylacetonitrile under thermolysis conditions leads via the dibenzoylketene-intermediate 2 to the 2-alkyl-5-benzoyl-6-phenyl-1,3-oxazin-4-ones 3, which can be converted by hydrolysis into the N-acylacrylamides 4. 2-Benzoyl-3-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-1 H-pyrano[2,3-c]isoquinoline-1,6-dione (5) is formed as a by-product in the reaction of 1 and phenylacetolnitrile. The structure of 5 is confirmed by alkylation and oxidation reactions.
    Notes: 4-Benzoyl-5-phenyl-2,3-dihydrofuran-2,3-dion (1) reagiert mit Butyro-, Isobutyro- und Phenylacetonitril unter Thermolysebedingungen über die Dibenzoylketen-Zwischenstufe 2 zu den 2-Alkyl-5-benzoyl-6-phenyl-1,3-oxazin-4-onen 3, die sich zu den N-Acylacrylsäureamiden 4 hydrolysieren lassen. Aus 1 und Phenylactonitril entsteht als Nebenprodukt 2-Benzoyl-3-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-1 H-pyrano[2,3-c]isochinolin-1,6-dion (5), dessen Struktur durch Alkylierung sowie Oxidation mit KMnO4 gesichert wurde.
