Description: Single crystals of ammonium penta borate (APB) were irradiated with 120 MeV Ag 9+ swift heavy ions (SHI) of fluence 1×10 13 ions/cm 2 . The UV-visible spectrum of irradiated crystal shows slight shift in the absorption edge and it also indicates the non uniformity in its absorbance level. An attempt was made to explain the surface damage caused due to SHI irradiation using AFM and SEM images.

Description: In order to study characteristics of pressure fluctuation of a turbine during the starting period, a turbine with guide vanes device at no-load condition was investigated using RNG k- ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/epsilon.gif] {epsilon} turbulence model. The inner flow distribution and pressure fluctuation characteristics were analyzed. Results show that the pressure fluctuations in the region between the runner and guide vanes are different around the runner inlet. The dominant frequency of pressure fluctuation in the vaneless space close to the casing outlet is the blade passing frequency, while the dominant frequency at the rest region is the twice of the blade passing frequency. The increase of amplitude of pressure fluctuation close to the casing outlet can be attribute to the large scale stall at suction side of the runner inlet.

Description: During casting of steel ingots, the inclusions such as oxide, sulfide will inevitably exist in the melt. These inclusions will flow upward together with light solutes during solidification due to their lower density relative to the steel melt, which therefore causes impacts on the thermo-solutal convection in the melt and final solute distribution. Hence, a macrosegregation model that considers the effects of inclusions on melt flow in the mushy zone is established. Of the new model two important parameters, the inclusion capturing probability by solid, k p , and the original volume fraction, n 0 , are systematically studied in terms of simulations, which shows that decreasing k p or increasing n 0 leads to stronger ascending flow in the melt. And then as a validation example, the model was used to predict the macrosegregation in a 3.3-ton steel ingot. The prediction demonstrates that with consideration of inclusio...

Description: In this paper, NiCoCrAlY-WSe 2 -BaF 2 ·CaF 2 solid lubricant coatings were produced on a substrate by plasma spray and investigated at the high temperature, such as 500 °C and 800 °C. The structure of the coatings was characterized using XRD pattern and scanning electron microscopy. The TC1 (83wt% NiCoCrAlY) coating has a low friction coefficient at 500C, where the WSe 2 is a good solid lubricant. The TC2 (65wt% NiCoCrAlY) coating has the low friction coefficient (0.279) at 800°C, due to the formation of BaCrO 4 on the surfaces. As a result, the TC2 coating has the optimal tribological property in the wide temperature.

Description: QUAL2K is a comprehensive longitudinal one-dimension steady-state water quality model, which considers the effect on dissolved oxygen (DO) through nitrogen circulation, algae growth and sediment oxidation process. And this model integrated hydrological model and temperature model, so it is widely adopted in the overseas. Because of its complexity and multiple parameters, the application of this model is restricted in China. Parameters optimization is inevitable in the usage of the water quality model. The modified Morris screening method is used and DO is selected as study index to proceed sensitivity analysis and further optimize related parameters. The high sensitive parameters, sensitive parameters and low sensitive parameters are determined.

Description: Phosphorus (P) sorption in sediments plays a significant role in trophic status of a lake. This study investigated the characteristics of P sorption in sediments from three lakes with different trophic statuses (moderately eutrophic, lightly eutrophic and moderately trophic) through kinetic, batch equilibrium and thermodynamic experiments. Results show that pseudo-second-order kinetics best describe P sorption in sediments from the three lakes. Fitting by modified Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms indicates that the moderately trophic lake sediment has higher sorption capacity (maximum of 0.848 mg g –1 at 35°C) than the sediments of the other two lakes at different temperatures (5, 15, 25 and 35°C). Thermodynamic results indicate that the processes of P sorption of the three sediments are spontaneous, entropy-driven and endothermic reactions. The risk of P release in sediments was analysed according to the calculated results of isotherms combined with the change in P fraction. Sediments from the moderately eutrophic lake act as a source in summer. The lightly eutrophic and moderately trophic lakes act as sources in spring and winter, and a pool in summer and autumn, respectively. Furthermore, the amounts of reductant-soluble P, calcium-bound P and iron-bound P are significantly related to the sorption capacity of sediments from the three lakes ( p 〈 0.05). The different sediments have different P release risk, and P fraction in sediment is one of the significant factors of P sorption.

Description: Because of the limitations of the traditional fractal box-counting dimension algorithm in subtle feature extraction of radiation source signals, a dual improved generalized fractal box-counting dimension eigenvector algorithm is proposed. First, the radiation source signal was preprocessed, and a Hilbert transform was performed to obtain the instantaneous amplitude of the signal. Then, the improved fractal box-counting dimension of the signal instantaneous amplitude was extracted as the first eigenvector. At the same time, the improved fractal box-counting dimension of the signal without the Hilbert transform was extracted as the second eigenvector. Finally, the dual improved fractal box-counting dimension eigenvectors formed the multi-dimensional eigenvectors as signal subtle features, which were used for radiation source signal recognition by the grey relation algorithm. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional fractal box-counting dimension algorithm and the single improved fractal box-counting dimension algorithm, the proposed dual improved fractal box-counting dimension algorithm can better extract the signal subtle distribution characteristics under different reconstruction phase space, and has a better recognition effect with good real-time performance.

Description: The effect of compression ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra-high strength pearlitic wire in single-pass cold drawing has been studied. The ultra-high tensile strength cord steel with a carbon content of 1.02 wt% were pulled through a single-pass drawing to different compression ratios (0-30%). With the increase of the single-pass compression ratio, the tensile strength, microhardness and torsional properties of the steel wire increased gradually. When the compression rate increased from 0 to 30%, the tensile strength of the steel wire increased from 1263.4 MPa to 1553.7 MPa, the torsional strength of steel wire increased from 1126.83 MPa to 1279.66 MPa. In the single-pass drawing process, the strengthening mechanism of the pearlitic steel wire are mainly the work hardening caused by the dislocation slip in the ferrite, and the fine grain strengthening caused by the decrease of the pearlite sheet spacing.

Description: A dielectric anomaly induced by doping has been observed at about 340 K in chlorine-doped diisopropylammonium bromide. The dielectric anomaly has a switchable behaviour, which indicates potential applications on switches and sensors. Temperature-dependent Raman spectrum, X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry do not show any anomaly around the dielectric anomaly temperature, which prove that the dielectric anomaly does not come from structure phase transition and has no specific heat variety. It is assumed that this dielectric anomaly can be attributed to the freezing of ferroelectric domain walls induced by the pinning of point defects.

Description: The purpose of this paper was to improve the safety equipment’s effectiveness through the comparison. Firstly, the history and safety accident of London Underground and Beijing Subway were shown. Secondly, fire equipment between these two cities was compared including station’s hardware installations and carriage’s hardware installations. Thirdly, the relative software installations were also compared such as emergency drills. The results showed that Beijing Subway’s hardware installations were better than London. However, London Underground’s some installations were more effective than Beijing. Both cities would pay more attention on anti-terrorist in tunnel.
