Description: International librarianship stems from a desire to bring about political change, transcultural understanding, collaboration, and mutual respect. Historically, librarians have been deeply involved with challenging issues of information sharing, equity in information access, and bridging the digital divide between different socioeconomic communities. This collection draws on case studies from American librarians who traveled to Central America, the Caribbean, Central Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean, and Asia to participate in librarian-initiated and sponsored projects. They united communities, promoted religious and cultural tolerance, developed new facilities, or enhanced existing libraries and archives, thereby enriching communities with resources, professional expertise, new partnerships, and sustainable development practices. 〈i>International Librarianship〈/i> offers insight into how these experiences might serve as templates and promote best practices in collaborations within the library profession in the United States and abroad, and it also demonstrates how international experiences can enliven home institutions upon return.

Description: This volume further anchors often abstracted, global ideas like “universal decent work” within local situations, everyday work practices, and lived experiences. Relatedly, a historical strength of I/O psychology has been its focus on the diversity of sociocultural values and norms in the workplace, including at national, organizational, and individual levels (for a review, see Carr, 2013). This chapter builds on, but also constructively away from, those foundations. Specifically, this chapter—like the contributions that follow—adds to these sociocultural considerations. We do so by including diversities associated with the various socioeconomic situations of different groups that are omnipresent at the hard edges of the wage, work security, and wellbeing spectra (Carr, 2023). Finally, this chapter and book take a deep dive into “who” has been systematically excluded from decent work in the past, and how they might be systemically included in our collective and sustainable futures.

Taylor & Francis | Expatriates and Managing Global Mobility | Routledge
    Publication Date: 2024-01-30
Description: There has been several decades of research on why women are under-represented in the expatriate population, but it is only in the past few years that research has begun to focus on issues with members from other diverse groups and how they fit into the expatriate picture. This chapter’s authors spotlight gender, age, race, religion and sexual orientation diversity. They point out, however, that MNCs can help alleviate some of these issues by fostering strong diversity climates within the firm, including diversity training programs, but clear evidence for the success of the various attempts to increase diversity is lacking. This chapter highlights how there is a special need for research which considers the intersection of these various dimensions of diversity, and how that can affect expatriate experience.
