    Personal factors affecting users' Web session lengths (2004)

    Notes: The objective in this study is to evaluate the mediating role of personal factors affecting the Web behaviour and in turn the length of Web sessions as a highly-subjective variable among individuals. This could be used to explain and improve the users' experience of being and acting in the Web. The present study uses a flow- versus goal-directed theoretical and practical approach to determine the influence of personal factors on Web behaviours and session lengths. A field study of 209 Web users was conducted to validate measures used to operationalise model variables and to test the hypothesised network of relationships using partial least squares (PLS) as a second-generation multivariate analysis technique. The study findings indicate that experiential behaviour, followed by goal-directed behaviour, has the largest influence on the lengths of Web sessions.

    Work-family conflict in a southern European country: The influence of job-related and non-related factors (2004)

    Notes: Shows the results of a survey about the antecedents of work-family conflict in a sample of Spanish employees. Analyses and discusses the influence of job-related and non-related factors. The results indicate that both groups of factors are antecedents of work-family conflict. Even though gender is not a significant variable to explain work-family conflict, the empirical study found differences at the time to explain the antecedents of men and women's work-family conflict. A few family-domain and work-domain perceptions had a strong influence on work-family conflict such as the gender roles, importance of family, job flexibility and job mental and physical requirements. Some of these perceptions suggest the influence of a culture where traditional gender roles still prevail and family as an institution is very strong. Functional mobility and educational level are also antecedents of work-family conflict. However, job category level, marital status, and social benefits do not have any influence on work-family conflict in the multivariate analysis, but the bivariate analysis showed that they have indeed an influence on the work-family conflict according to the hypotheses developed in the research framework.

    Notes: A comprehensive model of commitment in the context of consumer-retailer relationships is developed in this study. It gives a careful description and theoretical justification of the different dimensions, which compose this construct. To check the reliability and validity of the scale of measurement proposed, the generation and purification of the measurement items is subjected to a rigorous process, aiming at testing the higher-order structural model proposed in this paper. According to this model, commitment is composed of five final dimensions. The results confirm the outlined structure previously indicated in this study, obtaining a reliable and valid scale. Theoretical and managerial implications, limitations and future research directions are also discussed.

    Notes: The Bay of Cullera is an example of a multi-source polluted coastal environment. As a result of the combined discharge from the Júcar River and the sewage from a marine outfall, the Cullera coastal area presents occasionally severe water quality problems. The enhanced knowledge obtained for the most relevant processes affecting the quality of coastal and estuarine waters will lead to the production of suitable strategies and criteria for a sustainable development of these areas. This, together with the generation of a set of scientifically supported alternative policies directed to improve coastal water management, is the main goal of this paper and of the ECOSUD European research project.

More specifically, this paper describes an exploratory research effort to analyze and classify quality management practices in purchasing and assesses the relationships of these practices with measurements of a firm purchasing's operational performance (POP), internal customer satisfaction and business performance. The results reported in this study are based on a field survey consisting of responses gathered from 306 purchasing managers within the Spanish manufacturing industry.     Notes: The exploitation of the equipment maintenance records is often a weak point within an operations management organization. Inexistence of a proper computerized maintenance management system, lack of competencies to properly handle maintenance data, or reduced knowledge in advance maintenance data processing techniques, are common problems to solve in order to benefit from the historical record of failures and maintenance operations carried out on certain equipment. This paper presents the learning obtained in a case study of the maintenance records of earthmoving equipment. We characterize the process to do a maintenance records analysis, describe difficulties and critical points of our sample study and present how this analysis could help in the process of identifying different root causes of critical fault modes. Finally, we present and discuss results and conclusions of the study.
