Notes: The susceptibility of 17-4PH and 17-7PH stainless steels to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is examined in the present investigation. The specimens were tested in the presence of NaCl and NaOH (20%) at 908C and various pH values. The evaluations were carried out using the CERT test, at a speed of 10-6s-1, supplemented by anodic polarisation and electrochemical noise analysis. The main objective was to identify the conditions of both susceptibility and performance of these materials. Fractographic analyses revealed both ductile and brittle fractures. Also, the presence of intergranular cracks was a clear indication of a characteristic anodic dissolution of the material. Nevertheless, the main mechanism for stress corrosion crack propagation was hydrogen embrittlement. From the experimental results, it was concluded that electrochemical noise analysis is a reliable technique for the identification of crack nucleation and growth.

Notes: The literature shows a paradox in the understanding of the relationship between structural complexity (defined as the diversity of services offered by an organization) and customer satisfaction. Structural complexity tends to be a popular strategy designed to satisfy different customer needs. However, a negative relationship between structural complexity and customer satisfaction has also been argued. Based on the research on the public versus private distinction, this paper proposes that type of ownership is associated with the paradox mentioned, moderating the relationship between structural complexity and customer satisfaction. The authors tested this hypothesis using a sample of 60 managers and 897 customers of service organizations. The results indicated that as structural complexity increases, public organizations are less able to maintain customer satisfaction than private organizations. Ownership appeared to be an important contingency factor in understanding the paradoxical relationship between service structural complexity and customer satisfaction.

Notes: The corrosion performance of ceramic films of SiO2-Al2O3 prepared by the sol-gel processing of organometallic compounds and deposited by dip-coating technique on 1008 steel foils has been evaluated. Two kinds of procedures were developed to produce the sol-gel coatings. The influence of the coatings on the chemical corrosion of the substrate has been measured by using potentiodynamical polarization curves in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M HCl solutions at room temperature. Sol-B showed the best behaviour in protective corrosion, in addition to the fact that the number of applications does not influence the resistant corrosion. Protection of coatings was limited by the growing of film cracking due to residual stress between coating and substrate. The results were supplemented by SEM analysis.

Notes: Develops and tests an integrated check-list to assess manufacturing changes towards lean production. Using the results from a survey to manufacturing plants located in the Spanish region of Aragon, analyzes which lean production indicators are more used to assess the company's improvements in their production systems, and the determinants on the use of these indicators.
