Abstract Effect of melatonin on antioxidant activity and lipid peroxidation in blood, heart, liver, and brain was studied in rats exposed to traumatic shock. Melatonin exerted a potent modulatory effect on antioxidant enzyme activity. Its efficacy depended on organ sensitivity to oxygen deficiency under conditions of traumatic shock.
