    Notes: A simple and robust boundary triangulation algorithm is proposed and, based on it, completely automatic Delaunay mesh generation procedures are developed. The algorithm is equally applicable to convex, non-convex and multiply connected planar domains. In this approach, given the nodes, the number of triangles formed is precisely known and any desired control over mesh generation is possible.

    Notes: In the paper we have developed a new formulation for solution of structural-acoustic coupling problems by boundary elements using the multiple reciprocity method. It is assumed that the structure is composed of plate components and is excited by the external or the internal noise source. The efficiency of the proposed formulation becomes especially remarkable if the boundary-value problem is to be solved repeatedly for different values of frequency. The accuracy of the numerical computations has been compared with the analytical solution in a test example.

    Notes: A new approach to developing serendipity quadrilateral infinite elements is presented. Using these elements universal matrices for quasiharmonic equation are developed. For a particular member of the family these matrices are independent of the size and shape of the element. Using these matrices the element stiffness matrix can be generated in a simpler manner by taking into account the size and shape of the element.

    Notes: A theoretical analysis has been developed to study the crosstalk in crossed bundles of parallel lines. The model is based on the theory of the coupled transmission lines and the resulting system of differential equations has been solved by means of the finite difference, time-domain (FDTD) method. The frequency response of the network has been achieved by the discrete fourier transform (DFT) algorithm; measurements, performed with a vectorial network analyser, show a good agreement with numerical simulation.

    Notes: The stiffness matrix of a plane four-node quadrilateral finite element is given in closed form. When expressed as a FORTRAN subroutine and compared with the classical method of forming the stiffness matrix using Gaussian integration, the approach gives a CPU time speed-up of the order of 2-3 on a vector machine and of the order of 4-5 on a scalar machine. The technique used to generate the terms of the stiffness matrix made use of a computer algebra system which could clearly be extended to generate the matrices for other elements types.

    Notes: This paper describes the application of the boundary element method to solving two-dimensional steady slow viscous flow problems (creeping flow) in thermal silicon oxidation. The proposed method used the velocity-pressure formulation. The use of the incompressibility condition as a boundary condition and the application of the second Green's identity to transform the domain integral into a boundary integral result in a system of three boundary integral equations for velocity components and pressure. Solution of this system to be an ill-posed problem because of the presence of boundary conditions of the first kind. Two methods of regularization are employed. The numerical results for trench oxidation process are presented.

    Notes: The application of multigrid techniques to the computation of the static solutions of electromagnetic field problems governed by Laplace's equation is described. This technique is compared with the conventional successive over-relaxation (SOR) method for solving finite difference problems. In contrast to SOR, the number of iterations of multigrid needed to achieve convergence is largely independent of the grid size. It is shown that the relative performance of multigrid is excellent on large grids where the number of iterations of SOR needed to achieve convergence becomes prohibitively large. The technique is illustrated by applying a parallel implementation of multigrid to find a quasistatic solution of a boxed microstrip problem.

    Notes: This paper describes a design procedure for metal forming processes by using the controllable subspace of the full system. The velocity profile of the moving die is designed using the reduced order system. The metal forming processes are simulated using non-linear finite element methods based on the rigid viscoplastic flow formulation. The balanced model reduction technique is applied to reduce the full state space model to a reduced order model that retains the controllable subspace of the thermomechanical system. The linear quadratic regulator theory with output tracking is used as an off-line design tool to design the die velocity schedule. The process design is carried out to maintain the strain rate of the critical portion of the billet at a desired value. The procedure for designing the process parameters is demonstrated using two case studies.
