Description:
The time consuming numerical integration of the conservation equations is restricted to compute the transfer function (TF). This TF describes the dynamic properties of the medium divorced from the complexities in the temporal and horizontal variations of the excitation source. Given the TF, the atmospheric response to a chosen source configuration is then obtained speedily. The model can describe thermospheric waves as well as impulsive perturbations on the globe and has been used in the interpretation of ground based and satellite observations. Our discussion here is limited to describe the characteristics of gravity waves. © 1991, Society of Geomagnetism and Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences. All rights reserved.
