Notes: Abstract Aluminum borate with Al to B ratio of 10 was treated with water steam at 750 ° C for up to 48 h. It was found that steam would change the pore size distribution and the surface area of the aluminum borate. It did not possess superior hydrothermal stability under severe conditions. This can be ascribed to high surface instability of transition materials especially for boron compounds. However, even when only a small amount of boron is incorporated into the alumina structure, the surface area of such material can be increased.

Notes: Summary This paper deals with the problem of evaluating the stress singularity coefficients at the tips of a rigid line in an infinite plate. If the traction difference between the upper and lower borders of the rigid line is taken as an unknown function and the displacement of the curved rigid line as the right-hand term of the integral equation, then a new integral equation for the curved rigid line problem is obtained which is presented in this paper. The newly obtained integral equation has a logarithmic singular kernel. To solve the integral equation an interpolation equation for the traction difference functions (the undetermined functions in the integral equation) is proposed. A numerical examination is carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed technique. Also two numerical examples are given in this paper.

Notes: Abstract The temperatures and sequence of formation of superconducting phases within the composition Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu4O x were determined using simultaneous differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A single phase high-T c ceramic was obtained by a solid state reaction using predetermined firing conditions, although a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study showed a small amount of glass phase in the grain boundary tripoint regions. The unit cell of the high-T c phase was refined asa=0.5413 nm,b=0.5414 nm,c=3.715 nm. The melting temperature of the high-T c phase is in the region of 852–862°C. The effect of lead was believed to lower the temperature of formation of the high-T c phase. Lead was also found to evaporate from the matrix during and after high-T c phase formation, whereas bismuth was found to be stable in both the low-T c phase and high-T c phase compounds.

Notes: Abstract The influence of SnO dopant on the superconductivity and the phase formation of the Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system has been studied using differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, a.c. susceptibility and resistance measurements. It was found that Sn2+ can be dissolved in the 110 K phase, but reduces the formation of this phase. Resistance measurements show 107 K zero resistance can be obtained for a short-time sintered sample (60 h), but that theT c(0) was found to decrease to 90 and 75 K after the specimens were sintered for 90 and 140 h, respectively. The a.c. susceptibility measurements show that no superconducting phase other than 110 K phase exists in the specimens sintered for longer times and the signal for the 110 K phase became weaker after the specimen had been sintered for 140 h, indicating a decrease in the volume fraction of this phase.

Notes: Abstract The influence of Sb2O3 dopant on the superconductivity and the phase formation of the Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system was studied using differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetric analysis (DTA/TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), a.c. susceptibility and resistance measurements. It was found that the solubility of Sb3+ in the 110 K superconducting phase is limited; instead Sb3+ readily combines with other elements to form one or more unknown second phase(s), which melt at lower temperatures and accelerates the formation of the 110 K phase. Resistance measurements show the transition initiation temperature of the 110 K superconducting phase is unchanged but thatT c (zero) was found to decrease from 107 K to 98 K. TEM examination generating lattice images from antimony-doped crystals, showed the structure to be inhomogeneous and to contain many defects.

Notes: Abstract Using the57Fe Mössbauer effect the influence of the Ga content in amorphous (Fe1−x Ga x )84B16 on the average hyperfine fields $$\bar H$$ and isomer shift has been studied. For the sample (Fe0.98Ga0.02)84B16 the $$\bar H$$ , as well as the recoilless fraction,f a were measured as functions of temperature ranging from 12 K to 300 K. The experimental results show a linear correlation between Inf a and δ, and well as between δ andx. In the temperature range $$\bar H(T)$$ can be described by the Brillouin function and the second-order Doppler shift is appreciable. The characteristic temperature for such an amorphous alloy is 372 K. the effective vibrating massM eff=79 a.u.

Notes: Abstract Mössbauer measurements at temperatures ranging from 12 K to 300 K have been carried out on highT c superconductor YBa2Cu3O6+δ samples doped with Sn (5,2 and 0.5 wt%). The temperature dependent recoilless fractionf(T) has a narrow and small drop nearby transition temperatureT c which is dependent on the Sn-concentration and has a drop between 200–220 K. This indicates the occurrence of phonon softening at these temperatures. The Debye temperature θD of the samples containing 5, 2 wt% Sn atoms was determined as (290±25) K and (320±13) K respectively. These results show that phonons may play an important role for electron pairing in novel oxide superconductor.

Notes: Abstract The hyperfine fieldsH f(T), center shifts δ(T) and relative recoilless fractionsf a(T) at different lattice sites of barium ferrite were determined by Mössbauer spectroscopy of57Fe over a temperature range from 12 to 723 K. For ferric iron in the crystalline site (2b), the recoilless fractionf a(T) decreases most with increasing temperature in comparison with that of other sites, corresponding to a characteristic temperature {ie219-1}. These results indicate that the ferric iron in the site (2b) oscillates between two equivalent positions (4e) on either side of the symmetry plane normal to thec-axis.
