In an attempt to gain an insight into the evolution of the phases during the course of the drawing of a polymer, spectroscopic studies have been carried out on drawn isotactic polypropylene. Raman spectra with polarization data have been obtained from samples which have been uniaxially stretched at room temperature and at 135°C. A close examination of the spectra leads to the conclusion that the amorphous phase was first modified, causing the crystalline phase to orient along the axis of the stretching direction; simultaneously the amorphous phase exhibited a tendency to concentrate perpendicular to the stretching direction.

L'étude par effet Raman-laser d'échantillons de polypropylène isotactique, étirés soit à température ambiante, soit à 135°C par la méthode d'extrusion-soufflage, nous permet de suivre l'évolution des phases au cours de la déformation. Nos résultats montrent d'une part, que la phase amorphe se déforme en premier, entraǐnant l'orientation de la phase cristalline dans la direction de l'axe d'etirage, d'autre part que cette měme phase amorphe a tendance à se concentrer dans le plan perpendiculaire à l'axe d'étirage.
