Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
A biomedical adhesive that can bind to calcified tissues without drying and prior acid etch has been developed. The adhesive was prepared from commercially available gelatin, by first modifying its backbone to increase its phenolic content. This was achieved by reductive alkylation using phenolic aldehydes. Gelatin, modified this way, functions as a substrate for polyphenol oxidase and crosslinking takes place. A concentrated solution of gelatin and the enzyme, together with amines, can bond bone slices.
