Description: Sixteen radiocarbon dates extending back to 70,000 years provide a chronology for the continuous continental pollen record of Grande Pile. This record reflects climatic changes over the last 140,000 years in northeastern France. The cold period initiating the Middle Weichselian, dated previously at 55,000 years, is dated at 70,000 years before the present (B.P.) at Grande Pile. This event is marked by the disappearance of deciduous forests at this site. The Early Weichselian is placed before 70,000 years B.P. A correlation with the oxygen isotope stages from oceanic records is demonstrated until 70,000 years B.P. and attempted beyond.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Woillard, G M -- Mook, W G -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1982 Jan 8;215(4529):159-61.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17839545" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: A number of features have been identified as absorption lines of hydrogen cyanide in infrared spectra of stratospheric absorption obtained from a high-altitude aircraft. Column amounts of stratospheric hydrogen cyanide have been derived from spectra recorded on eight flights. The average vertical column amount above 12 kilometers is 7.1 +/- 0.8 x 10(14) molecules per square centimeter, corresponding to an average mixing ratio of 170 parts per trillion by volume.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Coffey, M T -- Mankin, W G -- Cicerone, R J -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1981 Oct 16;214(4518):333-5.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17829790" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: Serum and epidermal concentrations of 8-methoxypsoralen and 5-methoxypsoralen 2 hours after oral administration to guinea pigs were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. A linear relation was found between the serum and epidermal concentrations of 8-methoxypsoralen. In addition, a relation was found between serum concentrations of 5-methoxypsoralen and 8-methoxypsoralen and the appearance of phototoxicity. The lower phototoxicity of orally administered 5-methoxypsoralen as compared to 8-methoxypsoralen in the guinea pig appears to be due to its reduced concentrations in the epidermis, the primary site of the phototoxic events.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Kornhauser, A -- Wamer, W G -- Giles, A L Jr -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1982 Aug 20;217(4561):733-5.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7100920" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: A genetic map of 31 biochemical loci located on 17 feline syntenic (linkage) groups has been derived by somatic cell genetic analysis of cat-rodent hybrids. Most of these syntenic groups have been assigned to one of the 19 feline chromosomes. Comparative linkage analysis of the feline biochemical loci and homologous human loci revealed considerable conservation of linkage associations between the primates and the Felidae (order Carnivora). Many of these same linkage groups have not been conserved in the murine genome. The genetic and evolutionary implications of comparative mapping analysis among mammalian species are discussed.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉O'Brien, S J -- Nash, W G -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1982 Apr 16;216(4543):257-65.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7063884" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: Nondeletion forms of hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin may result from regulatory disorders of globin gene expression. The defects in two such conditions were localized by demonstrating a tight genetic linkage between the disorders and polymorphic restriction endonuclease sites within the beta-like globin gene complex. In one instance, the defect probably occurred outside the region of DNA between the epsilon- and beta-globin genes.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Old, J M -- Ayyub, H -- Wood, W G -- Clegg, J B -- Weatherall, D J -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1982 Feb 19;215(4535):981-2.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6186021" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Notes: [Auszug] CHARLES Coulson once suggested that the acronym MO should stand for Mulliken Orbitals rather than for Molecular Orbitals. Robert Mulliken was one of the originators of the method of obtaining solutions of the Schrdinger equation for molecules in a manner paralleling that used for atoms, each ...

Notes: [Auszug] PALAEOBIOLOGY has, in its own jargon, undergone a recent evolutionary explosion. Twenty years ago the study of fossil plants consisted largely of investigating their structure, and where possible reconstructing the whole plant from its variously preserved fragments. In the past two decades, ...
