    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Le comportement thermique de la cire liquide de Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) a été étudié par analyse calorimétrique différentielle (DSC) en faisant varier les conditions de recuit. L'enthapie de fusion (ΔH f) de l'échantillon non recuit est de 27,12 cal/g; le rapport entre la chaleur spécifique (C p) et la température a pu être exprimé par l'équation suivante:C p=9.51×10−4T+0.129. On a trouvé que la cire de Jojoba présente quatre transitions endothermiques (α, β, γ etδ) en incluant la fusionα, décelable aux faibles vitesses de chauffage (1°/min); les énergies d'activation respectives (E ac) se sont élevées à 51.18 et 64.82 kcal/mol pour les transtions a etγ sont en relation linéaire avec la racine carrée de la vitesse de chauffage (H r).
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Das thermische Verhalten des flüßigen Wachses von Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) wurde durch Differential-Abtastkalorimetrie (DSC) unter Änderung der Wärmebehandlungsbedingungen untersucht. Die Schmelzenthalpie (ΔHf) des unbehandelten Materials betrug 27.12 cal/g; der Zusammenhang zwischen der Wärmekapazität (C p) und der Temperatur konnte durch folgende Gleichung ausgedrückt werden:Cp=9.51×10−4T+ +0.129. Es wurde festgestellt, daß das Jojoba-Wachs vier endotherme Übergänge (α, β, γ undδ) aufweist, darunter die Schmelzeα, die bei niedrigen Aufheizgeschwindigkeiten zu ermitteln ist (1°K/min); die Aktivierungsenergien (Eac) für die Übergängeα undγ betrugen 51.18 bzw. 64.82 Kcal/mol. Es wurde beobachtet, daß die Übergangstemperaturenα undγ in linearem Zusammenhang mit der Quadratwurzel der Aufheizgeschwindigkeit (Hr) waren.
    Notes: Abstract The thermal behaviour of Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) liquid wax was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), varying the annealing conditions. The fusion enthalpy (ΔHf) of the unannealed material was 27.1 cal/g; the relationship between heat capacity (Cp) and temperature could be expressed by the following equation:Cp=9.51×10−4 T+0.129. It was found that Jojoba wax presents four endothermic transitions (α, β, γ andδ) including fusionα, estimable at low heating rates (1 K/min); the activation energies (Ea) for transitionsα andγ were 51.18 and 64.82 Kcal/mole respectively; and it was observed that the transition temperaturesα andγ maintained a lineal relationship with the square root of the heating rate (Hr).

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé On a étudié, par analyse calorimétrique différentielle dans une atmosphère dynamique d'oxygène, la résistance à l'oxidation thermique de la cire Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis). On a calculé l'énergie d'activation (Ea) de l'oxydation thermique en déterminant la température maximale (Tm) de la réaction à diverses vitesses de chauffage (Hr) et en utilisant les modèles mathématiques déjà proposés pour des systèmes dynamiques. La valeur obtenue est 21.84 kcal/mole. On a calculé également les enthalpies d'oxydation (δHox) et on a trouvé des corrélations linéaires entre les racines carrées de la vitesse de chauffage et la température initiale de l'oxydation thermique.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die thermooxidative StabilitÄt von Jojoba-Wax (Simmondsia chinensis) wurde durch Differential-Abtastkalorimetrie in dynamischer SauerstoffatmosphÄre untersucht. Die Aktivierungsenergie der Thermooxidation (Ea) wurde durch die Bestimmung der maximalen Reaktionstemperatur (Tm) bei verschiedenen Aufheizgeschwindigkeiten (Hr) unter Anwendung der vorhergehend für dynamische Systeme vorgeschlagenen mathematischen Modelle berechnet. Der erhaltene Wert betrug 21.84 Kcal/Mol. Die OxidationsenthalpienδH ox wurden ebenfalls berechnet und lineare ZusammenhÄnge mit der Quadratwurzel der Aufheizgeschwindigkeit und der Anfangstemperatur der Thermooxidation wurden gefunden.

The thermo-oxidation activation energy (Ea) was calculated by determining the maximum reaction temperature (Tm) at different heating rates (Hr) and using mathematical models previously proposed for dynamic systems.     Notes: Summary Calcium-deficient carbonate apatites in urinary calculi from 17 patients have been studied. Magnesium ions in each case were detected as a component of apatite. In most of the cases, CO 3 2− ions were included in the apatitic lattice. Using a calcination procedure, we have determined the most probable average value for the CO 3 2− content, degree of deficiency, x, and the Mg/Ca ratio in each sample.

    Notes: Summary A malformed male newborn was first diagnosed as having Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. Extensive cytogenetic studies, including Q, G, C, R and T banding and BudR treatment, were applied, finally leading the authors to conclude that the patient had a partial 2p trisomy caused by direct duplication 2p14→2p23. This was a de novo chromosome abnormality, as both parents had normal karyotypes.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Quatre nouveaux dérivés de l'uranium avec l'acide propionique, l'ammonium et divers cations bivalents ont été synthétisés. Leur formule générale correspond à NH4M[UO2(C2H5COO)3]3 nH2O, (M=Mn++, Co++, Ni++ et Zn++). Ces composés ont été examinés par diffraction des rayons X ainsi que par analyses thermique et thermogravimétrique afin d'identifier les différentes phases solides isolées pendant leur traitement thermique. L'existence d'un nouvel oxyde double d'uranium et de cobalt de structure type fluorine est également démontrée.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Vier neue Derivate des Urans mit Propionsäure, Ammonium und verschiedenen zweiwertigen Kationen wurden synthetisiert. Die allgemeine Formel ist: NH4M[UO2(C2H5COO)3]3nH2O, (M=Mn++, Co++, Ni++ und Zn++). Diese Verbindungen wurden durch Röntgendiffraktion, Differentialthermoanalyse und thermogravimetrische Analyse untersucht um die während der Wärmebehandlung isolierten verschiedenen Festphasen zu identifizieren. Die Existenz eines neuen Doppeloxides von Uran und Cobalt mit einer Struktur von Fluorit-Typ wurde ebenfalls nachgewiesen.
    Notes: Abstract Four new derivatives of uranium with propionic acid, ammonium and various divalent cations have been synthesized, whose general formula corresponds to NH4M[UO2(C2H5COO)3]3nH2O, (M=Mn++, Co++, Ni++ and Zn++). These compounds have been studied by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis, so as to identify the different solid phases isolated during heat treatment. The existence of a new double oxide of uranium and cobalt with fluorite type structure has also been shown.

    Notes: Summary The sulfatide content, phospholipid concentration, and (Na++K+)-ATPase activity from skin and gills of different stages of larval development ofCalyptocephalella caudiverbera (a Chilean frog) were analyzed. Additionally, the short-circuit current in skin was studied. When skin and gills, depending on the stage of larval development, present (Na++K+)-ATPase activity, they have a high ratio of sulfatide to amount of membrane and the phosphatidylserine concentration remains unchanged. Sulfatide content and (Na++K+)-ATPase activity in skin are in direct relationship with the level of sodium flux present during development. The specific enzymatic hydrolysis of sulfatide with partially purified arylsulfatase of pig kidney inhibits 100% of the ouabain-sensitive (Na++K+)-ATPase. The ouabain-insensitive ATPase remains virtually unchanged with the treatment, even with a high concentration of arylsulfatase or with ouabain present in the medium. These experiments strongly suggest a role of sulfatides in the (Na++K+)-ATPase activity and, as a consequence, in sodium ion transport.

    Notes: Summary The filum terminale, or terminal portion of the spinal cord, was studied in normal adult frogs (Rana pipiens) by means of light and electron microscopy. Astroglial cells are the predominant elements in this region. The rostral portion of the filum terminale consists mainly of (1) a peripheral dense ring of myelinated and some unmyelinated nerve fibers, and processes of astrocytes terminating at the subpial space; (2) an intermediate zone, in which astrocytes are the main cellular elements in addition to a few degenerated neurons; and (3) a central region where the central canal is lined by dark and light ependymal cells. In the caudal portion of the filum terminale, the amount of neuropil is greatly reduced. This region is formed mainly by astrocytic glial cells and very few neuronal elements. The central canal in the caudal portion is located ventrally and contains a lining consisting almost exclusively of dark ependymal cells.

    Notes: Summary The structural organization of the rostral, lateral and postinfundibular regions of the median eminence (ME) of 5-day cyclic diestrous rats was studied with light and electron microscopic methods. The ependymal cells lining (i) the floor of the infundibular recess (IR) at rostral levels, (ii) the lateral extensions of the IR, and (iii) the floor of the premammillary recess appear to represent the same type of tanycyte ependyma (β1 tanycytes). In the entire width of the rostral and postinfundibular palisade regions, as well as in the lateral palisade region of the preinfundibular ME, the processes of the β1 tanycytes form a continuous cuff. This cuff separates the nerve endings from the blood vessels and the pars tuberalis. At this level, synaptoid contacts between neurosecretory axons and the ependymal cuff can be observed. The ultrastructural characteristics of the β1 tanycytes are described and their ependymal endings tentatively classified into three types. In the lateral regions of the ME, the Golgi study revealed the presence of two fiber systems: (i) one possessing a latero-medial trajectory and distributed in the subependymal region; (ii) the other formed by a loose longitudinal tract originating from neurons of the arcuate nucleus. Some functional implications of the cellular organization of the rat ME are discussed.

    Notes: Abstract We discuss several points concerning the structure of the cylinder term in the dual topological expansion. Using dual field theory as a guide, we concentrate on the possibility of a two-singularity scheme à la Harari-Freund. We start from results obtained previously at the lowest order in ϱ=N f /N c and study what can be the role of flavour-loop corrections in the real world where ϱ∼1. It is argued that, in spite of the actual value of ϱ, precise mechanisms exist which can weaken the role of the flavour-loop corrections in the kinematical region where “soft” dynamics dominates. We also claim that theS-matrix at largeN c (ϱ≈-0) incorporates already many realistic features, and we refute some objections recently raised against the Harari-Freund picture.

    Notes: Abstract We discuss the transverse structure of two-jet events within a scheme à la Harari-Freund, using Dual Field Theory as a guide. We point out that the situation is quite different from current two-random-walk models based on uncorrelated-jet pictures of multiparticle production, and that it also differs in a natural way from standardf iteration schemes leading to Pomeronf identity. It then follows that recent criticism based on the role of transverse dimensions cannot be applied to the “gluonic” Pomeron of Dual Field Theory.
