Notes: Summary The energy transfer ability of free and polymer-bound acetophenone and benzophenone has been studied. The polymeric sensitizers were prepared by acetylation or benzoylation of atactic polystyrene (¯Mn=67.000). Trans-cis isomerization of stilbene, monitored by UV-spectrophotometry, has enabled the energy transfer process to be probed. The values of the Stern-Volmer constants, determined by following this technique, indicate that the energy transfer efficiency of both ketones is higher when they are in free state than when they are polymer-bound.

Notes: Summary The solution polymerization of phosphonitrilic chloride trimer has been studied by using 50% by weight monomer in Chlorobenzene. Polymerization reactions were conducted at temperatures between 198° and 240°C, and reaction times ranged from 12 to 96 h. Mostly soluble polymer was obtained up to a conversion of 30%. insoluble product was detected only above 240°C and 72 h. of reaction time. Polymers were characterised by intrinsic viscosity and weight average molecular weight, Mw, by light scattering (Zimm plot).

Notes: Summary A combined X-ray diffraction and DSC investigation of the crystalline phase in lamellar low density polyethylene after conventional chlorosulfonation treatment has been carried out. Our results indicate that the acid attack does not involve any heavy group penetration within the lattice. The location of these groups at the basal crystal surface contributes, however, to an enhancement of the melting temperature of the modified lamellae. It turns out that the destruction level of crystalline material at 45°C, after 15–20 h is of the order of 20% and progressively increases for longer periods of time.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we introduce a new Quasi-Newton method for solving nonlinear simultaneous equations. At each iteration only one column ofB k is changed to obtainB k+1 . This permits to use the well-known techniques of Linear Programming for modifying the factorization ofB k . We present a local convergence theorem for a restarted version of the method. The new algorithm is compared numerically with some other methods which were introduced for solving the same kind of problems.

Notes: Abstract The effects of applying voltages higher than the nominal voltageV N, for given periods of time, to miniature aluminium electrolytic capacitors has been investigated. The measurements of the current transients, theI–V characteristics, and the a.c. properties indicate that the main effect of subjecting the capacitors to the high voltages is an irreversible change in the capacitor dielectric characteristics as a consequence of a large increase in the resistance of the electrolyte and in the permanent leakage current through the anodic oxide. This current, very noticeable for voltages higher thanV N, is attributed to an electronic conduction mechanism in an avalanche regime. The measured dielectric parameters and their evolution after exposing the capacitors to stressed voltage conditions are interpreted in terms of an extension of McLean's equivalent circuit for an electrolytic capacitor.

Notes: Abstract Some of the properties of the oblate planet problem are derived. We use the technique of blowing up the singularity to study the collision orbits. We define some families of them in terms of their asymptotic behavior.

Notes: Abstract Solid state effects are taken into account in an internal conversion coefficients computation by using Wigner-Seitz boundary conditions. Both the bound and free electron wave functions are calculated from an atomic Dirac-Hartree-Fock-Slater self consistent potential. These internal conversion coefficients are compared with those obtained from the usual free atom boundary conditions.

Notes: Summary The presence of 10−3 M ouabain or furosemide in the perfusate inhibited saliva secretion induced by either isoproterenol (10−5 M) or phenylephrine (10−5 M) from isolated rat submandibular glands and caused characteristic alterations in the electrolyte composition of saliva.
