Notes: [Auszug] The observations of GX9+1 were made with the NRAO three-element interferometer at frequencies of 2,695 and 8,085 MHz. Previous negative results for radio emission from this X-ray source, together with a description of the interferometer and data analysis methods, are given elsewhere3. Observations ...

Notes: [Auszug] The observations were made at frequencies of 2,695 and 8,085 MHz with the NRAO three-element interferometer at Green Bank from October 28 to October 31, 1971. The baseline lengths were 900, 1,800 and 2,700 m. Cygnus X-l was observed concurrently with sixty other radio sources in a programme of ...

Notes: Summary An incomplete hierarchy of shopping centers has been identified for Austin, With consideration of the CBD and planned ribbon developments, a complete hierarchy might well be postulated. The depleted population of lowest level centers has been noted and shown to be not incompatible with the other findings. However, some systematic elements have been deduced from the spacing of these centers. With a map transformation, a greater regularity may be found than had been detected here. But the actual distribution has been explained in terms of uneven densities of opportunities since the hierarchical requirement of central place theory had already been fulfilled. Topological variance in such a map transformation as has been suggested may considerably complicate a solution which could adequately account for the distribution of such transport oriented service centers as shopping centers. Further research on this data with such reordered space, using entropic analysis and evaluating the information contained in several distributions under different transformations might prove interesting. More complete data on shopping centers, particularly opening dates, and for defunct centers, store types and closing dates would aid the evaluation of the validity of the deductions made here.

Notes: Abstract A highly diverse soft-bottom community in Kingston Harbour, Jamaica is described to provide additional information on the structure of tropical benthic communities. It is shown that the community has a level of diversity unique to stable tropical environments, that dominance by a few species is greatly reduced, and that there are no true parallels to this community in similar environments. The community described seems to fit Sanders' stability-time hypothesis. The density and standing crop of the community are low, and possible explanations for this are discussed. Continuous year-round breeding, short life-spans, and fast turnover rates are suggested as the most important factors regulating biomass in the community described.

Notes: Abstract Electrophoretic variation of both the cytoplasmic and mitochondrial forms of the malic enzyme is described in Macaca nemestrina. Pedigree analysis of the observed phenotypes demonstrates that the two subcellular forms of the malic enzyme are genetically independent. The identity of the electrophoretic phenotypes in brain, heart muscle, liver, kidney, adrenal, and spleen from any given individual shows that each subcellular form is determined by the same genetic locus in a wide variety of tissues. After separation by ion exchange chromatography, the cytoplasmic and mitochondrial malic enzymes were shown to be distinct in their heat stability and K m for malate, but no significant differences were found among the variants of the cytoplasmic enzyme or among the variants of the mitochondrial enzyme. It is possible that the polymorphism of the mitochondrial malic enzyme is selectively neutral.

Notes: Abstract Polymorphic variation of the human mitochondrial malic enzyme was detected in Caucasians and Negroes. The frequencies of the two alleles determining the three mitochondrial malic enzyme phenotypes were 0.69 and 0.31 in the Caucasian sample and 0.82 and 0.18 in the much smaller Negro sample. The distribution of phenotype frequencies among the 85 Caucasian males shows a significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium proportions. Two interconvertible forms of the cytoplasmic malic enzyme are described in human brain tissue, together with one variant in 132 Caucasian individuals.
