Summary The anti-anginal activity of amiodarone (Cordarone) has been investigated in a double-blind trial in 43 patients suffering from angina pectoris. 34 of them completed the trial period. 21 patients were given amiodarone for the first month (at the daily dose of 3×2 tablets of 100 mg each) and a placebo during the second month; 13 patients were given the two treatments in the reverse sequence. Each evening throughout the trial the patients recorded on a special form whether the day had been “good”, “bad” or “excellent”. From statistical analysis of the results, it appears that the therapeutic effect of amiodarone is significantly greater than that of the placebo.
