Description / Table of Contents: Abstract 5-Carboxyl-substituted 3.3-diphenyl-2-amino-1-pyrrolines are conveniently prepared by cycloaddition of α-acetaminoacrylic ester to diphenylacetonitrile. An alternative route, starting with the 4.4-diphenyl-4-cyano-2-bromobutyric acid derivatives1 b or1 d, results in poor yields owing to elimination of HBr during amination. Several amides of 3.3-diphenyl-2-aminopyrroline-5-carboxylic acid were prepared, including the β-carbamidinoethylamide (rac. diphenylnoformicin). Reduction of the ethyl ester2 f yields 3.3-diphenyl-2-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-1-pyrroline (3).
Diphenylnoformicin) (2 h) hergestellt. Die Reduktion des Äthylesters2 f führt zum 3,3-Diphenyl-2-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-1-pyrrolin (3).

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Acylierung von 2-Amino-3.3-diphenyl-5-methyl-1-pyrrolin (1) und 2-Amino-3.3-diphenyl-1-pyrrolin (2) erfolgt in den hier untersuchten Fällen am N-2-(exo)-Stickstoff.
Notes: Abstract Acylations of 2-amino-3.3-diphenyl-5-methyl-1-pyrroline (1) and 2-amino-3.3-diphenyl-1-pyrroline (2) occur at the N-2-(exo)-nitrogen. However, reaction of1 and2 with BrCN yields not only the N-2-(exo)-cyanoamidines but also the N-1-(endo)-isomers. Either is converted into the corresponding carbamoyl and thiocarbamoyl amidines.

Notes: Abstract Stable carbamidine derivatives of 2-amino-1-pyrrolines have been prepared using known reactions. The addition of bis-benzhydrylcarbodiimide to 2-amino-1-pyrrolines followed by acid cleavage of the benzhydryl moieties provides an improved method for the preparation of nor-derivatives of this class of compounds (Table 2). N2-Alkyl-and arylsulfonyl derivatives of this series have been selectively obtained from 1_(N2-sulfonylcarbamidino)-3.5-dimethylpyrazoles.

Notes: Summary In accordance with the mustard-oil-containing families of the Capparidales ‘Myrosinase’ can be detected inBatis maritima. This observation suggests a relationship between Batidaceae and Capparidales also indicated by some morphological and anatomical data.

Notes: Abstract In [1] it was shown how to attach a boundary to any space-time. In the present paper a boundary is constructed for any bundle associated with the frame bundle of a space time. In such a way limits of tensor fields at boundary points of a space-time are defined. Using this we show that the Lorentz metric has always a unique continuous extension to theb-boundary of the space-time.

Notes: Summary Serial sections of the vestibular ampullae of two species of fish and one species of frog were investigated by electron microscopy. The kinocilium is the only connection between the sensory cells and the auxiliary structure (cupula). The cupula possesses canals that traverse its entire height. Each canal contains a single kinocilium in its proximal part; distally, it is filled with material that stains with colloidal silver. The matrix of the cupula consists of filaments running perpendicular to the canals. These filaments do not stain with colloidal silver. The kinocilium is connected to the wall of the canal via structures that differ in the studied species of fish and frog. The filamentous links between the kinocilium and the longest stereovilli of the sensory hair bundle are similar in all the investigated species. The stereovilli are interconnected by basal and shaft links, and by horizontal and oblique tip connectors, similar to those described by other authors for macula organs and the organ of Corti, although differences in structural details, especially of the horizontal tip and the shaft connectors, are present. Some of these are species specific and some are related to the position of the sensory cell in the epithelium and/or specific to the organ (ampulla or macula organ). Some attachment sites of the links are associated with osmiophilic submembranous material. These differences in the structure, distribution and attachment sites of the links are possibly of functional importance.

Notes: Abstract To any space time a boundary is attached on which incomplete geodesics terminate as well as inextensible timelike curves of finite length and bounded acceleration. The construction is free ofad hoc assumptions concerning the topology of the boundary and the identification of curves defining the same boundary point. Moreover it is a direct generalization of the Cauchy completion of positive definite Riemannian spaces.

Notes: Abstract The gauge-invariance of the calculations determining anisotropics in the cosmic microwave background radiation (the Sachs-Wolfe effect) is re-examined. It is shown that the results obtained are gauge-invariant only if a physically-based definition of the surface of last scattering is implemented, in a context where perturbations of the surface of last scattering as well as of the space-time are taken into account. Any physical interpretation of the results based on their splitting into ‘scalar’, ‘vector’, and ‘tensor’ parts, is unique only if non-local (unverifiable) conditions are imposed; locally, any such interpretation is non-unique. The physical meaning of the Sachs-Wolfe potentialB and associated redshift formula depends on implementing a very specific gauge, without a clear physical or geometric meaning; its implications do not extend to other, more usual, gauges.

Notes: Abstract The following new results are proved: (1) Every Riemannian space admitting a multiply transitive Lie algebra of Killing fields is locally isometric to a homogeneous Riemannian space. (2) For every closed connceted subgroupH 0 of the invariance group of a non degenerate quadratic form a homogeneous Riemannian space exists whose isotropy group containsH 0. (3) Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for a Lie algebra $$\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{G} $$ to have a realization as multiply transitive Killing fields. These conditions are constructire in the sense that, for a given linear connected isotropy group, Lie algebras $$\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{G} $$ can be calculated algebraically, (4) It is shown how the Riemann tensor of a bomogencous space and its covariant derivatives can be expressed in terms of the metric at one point and the structure constants of the Lie algebra of Killing fields.
