For the first time it has been achieved to prepare SrCu2O2. Single crystal x-ray investigation indicate that SrCu2O2 crystallizes tetragonally with a = 5.48 and c = 9.825 Å, space group D194h - I41/amd. The structure determination shows for Sr2+ an octahedral oxygen surrounding. The octahedrons are staved alongside [001] and are only in the a/a-plane connected over mutual corners of the octahedron bases. The 3-dimensional structure of the octahedrons results from connecting edges. Each Cu+ has only two O2- neighbours. Both form a streched dumbell. Alongside [100] and [010] the zick-zack-shape connected groups O—Cu—O penetrate the crystal lattice. Thus the octahedrons around Sr2+are joined additionally.

Erstmals gelang die Darstellung von SrCu2O2, welches an Ein-kristallen röntgenographisch untersucht wurde. SrCu2O2 kristallisiert tetragonal mit a = 5,48 und c = 9,825 Å, Raumgruppe D194h - I41/amd. Die Strukturbestimmung zeigt für Sr2+ oktaedrische Umgebung durch Sauerstoff. Die Oktaeder sind längs [001] gestaucht und längs [010] ausschließlich über gemeinsame Eckpunkte an den Oktaedergrundflächen in verschiedenen Ebenen senkrecht zur c-Achse verknüpft. Der 3-dimensionale Aufbau der Oktaeder erfolgt über verknüpfende Kanten. Jedes Cu+ hat nur zwei O2--Nachbarn und bildet mit diesen eine gestreckte Hantel. Längs [100] und [010] durchziehen die zickzackförmig verknüpften Gruppen O—Cu—O den Kristallverband. Dadurch werden die Oktaeder um Sr2+ zusätzlich miteinander verbunden.
