    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1. Die Larven der Ameisengäste Lomechusa strumosa und Atemeles pubicollis werden von ihren Formica-Wirten der Ameisenbrut zugeordnet. 2. Die Gastlarven zeigen ein typisches Futterbettelverhalten, das dem Bettelverhalten der Ameisenlarven sehr ähnlich ist; sie betteln die Brutpflegerinnen sogar intensiver an als es bei Ameisenlarven zu beobachten ist. 3. Mit Hilfe der Tracermethode (32P) konnte nachgewiesen werden, daß die Gastlarven ernste Futterkonkurrenten für die Ameisenlarven sind. 4. Die Gastlarven geben über die Oberfläche Stoffe an die pflegenden Ameisen ab. Diese Stoffe sind offensichtlich die Ursache für die hohe Attraktivität der Gastlarven. Es werden Belege erbracht, daß diese Substanzen aus dorso-lateral gelegenen epidermalen Drüsen stammen. 5. Die Attraktionsstoffe lassen sich mit Aceton extrahieren. Mit dem Extrakt getränkte Attrappen werden von den Ameisen den Ameisenlarven zugeordnet. 6. Es wird angenommen, daß die Gastlarven nicht nur im Verhalten (s.o.) sondern auch mit ihren Attraktivstoffen Ameisenlarven imitieren.
    Notes: Summary 1. The larvae of the myrmecophilic beetles Lomechusa strumosa and Atemeles pubicollis which live in the nests of ants (Formica), are treated by their hosts like their own brood. 2. The begging behaviour of the guest-larvae is similar to the begging of Formica-larvae, but more intense. 3. By means of radioactive tracers it was shown, that the guest-larvae are strong competitors of the host-larvae for food. 4. The guest-larvae secret substances through their body surface which are highly attractive to the ants and are licked up by them. In the guest-Larvae dorsolaterally epidermal glands were found which presumably produce the attractants. 5. The attractants can be extracted with acetone. Dummies soaked in extracts became attractive and were treated like own brood by ants. 6. It is assumed that the guest larvae mimick ant-larvae both in their attractive substances and in their behaviour.
