Notes: Conclusions A method for producing roof products using magnesite-chromite clinker from caustic magnesite and Kimpersai chromite was developed and tested on an industrial scale. The dry method of producing the clinker from 20–25% chromite and 75–80% magnesite powder is the best. Roof refractories made with the use of magnesite-chromite clinker satisfy the requirements of GOST for all factors except spalling resistance.

Notes: The paper defines a water right and discusses the origin, description and relationship of riparian rights, appropriative rights, overlying rights, pueblo rights, prescriptive rights and rights to spring water and return flows as recognized in California. It reviews the objectives and physical criteria on which administration of water rights in California is based and describes the administrative body, then outlines the procedures in regard to appropriation of water and determination of existing rights. It discusses watermaster service and water use recordation as practiced in California, and mentions Federal-State relationships, including the “reservation principle” asserted by the Federal Government. It concludes with observations of the deficiencies in the California system.

Notes: Summary The unit cell parameters ofβ-glyceryl tristearate have been calculated from crystal structure data ofβ-glyceryl trilaurate by assuming “homologous isomorphism” between these structures. Measured cell dimensions ofβ-tristearate, obtained byX-ray single crystal diffraction deviate slightly but significantly from these calculated values, showing that the packing density inβ-tristearate is slightly higher than inβ-trilaurate. By means of the experimental unit cell and measured angles between crystal faces, a complete identification of the most frequently occurring faces ofβ-tristearate is obtained. The surface structure of the various crystal faces is briefly discussed.

Notes: Summary The steady state and transient response of a two degree of freedom spherical system immersed in a viscous fluid medium, initially at rest, is investigated with the inclusion of the fluid reaction derived by Basset in the differential equations of motion. In the steady state study, phase angle and amplitude ratio curves are presented from which the mode shapes of the system, for wide ranges of density ratio, frequency ratio and Stokes number, can be obtained. In the investigation of transient response, the system is subjected to impulsive base displacements and the equations of motion are solved numerically. The response curves obtained illustrate the effect of each dimensionless parameter on the dynamic behavior of the system.

Notes: Summary The dynamic response of a two degree of freedom spherical structural system immersed in viscous fluid media is studied with the fluid reactions obtained byBasset included in the differential equations of motion. Closed form solutions for the response of such systems are presented and a dynamic stability criterion based on the form of the solutions is developed. The solutions and the stability criterion are applicable to the limiting case when the system is surrounded by a vacuum. The various regions of stability and instability are delineated, and it is shown that the type of instability is significantly influenced by the physical properties of the surrounding fluid medium.

Notes: Abstract The plasma is inviscid, cool, and not thermally conducting; it flows in a channel of constant cross section. The solution is derived by the small parameter method, for which purpose the magnetic interaction N is used. There have been previous studies of the transient-state flow of an inviscid and thermally nonconducting plasma in crossed electric and magnetic fields [1–3]. A plasma of infinite conductivity has been considered [1], as well as flow involving entropy change in an MHD system with strong electromagnetic fields [2, 3].

Notes: Abstract These measurements were made with potential probes and show that the voltage increases along the arc in the direction of gas flow. An explanation in terms of increase in temperature is proposed.

Notes: Conclusions 1. The optimum composition of the β-titanium alloy (IVT1) is Ti, 7% Mo, 5.5% Cr, 3% Fe, and 3% Al. 2. We determined the variation of the mechanical properties and structure of the β-alloy with the aging temperature. We found that quenching in water after 1 h at 800°C and aging 50 h at 450°C, 20 h at 500°C, 15 h at 525°C and 550°C, and cooling in air makes it possible to obtain σb=10−7%, and ψ=22−11.

Notes: Conclusions 1. In all systems investigated we found preferred diffusion of the element with a lower melting point. In some pairs of metals the diffusion process is accompanied by the development of porosities in the more rapidly diffusing component. 2. Alloying of niobium with metals having a higher melting point (tantalum, tungsten, molybdenum) leads to a reduction of diffusion mobility and the zone of interdiffusion, an increase of the activation energy of self-diffusion, and, consequently, an increase of the interatomic bonding forces in the solid solution. The solution in niobium of metals with lower melting points (titanium, vanadium, zirconium) induces weakening of the bonding forces in the solid solution and an increase of the diffusion coefficients by comparison with the self-diffusion coefficient of pure niobium.
