    Notes: Zusammenfassung Mit einem Oxytocin-Albumin-Konjugat bzw. mit einem Lysin-Vasopressin-Albumin-Konjugat konnten bei Kaninchen spezifische Antikörper hervorgerufen werden. Die gegen Oxytocin-Albumin-Konjugat gerichteten Antikörper scheinen auch einen gewissen inaktivierenden Effekt auf genuines Oxytocin zu haben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Brauchbarkeit verschiedener histologischer Vorbehandlungsmethoden für Untersuchungen der Blut-Hirn-Schranke mit fluorescenzmarkiertem Gamma-Globulin wurde an Gehirnen normaler Meerschweinchen sowie in der Umgebung einer kortikalen Kältenekrose am Katzenhirn untersucht. Neben der Gefriertrocknung erwies sich die Methode der Freeze Substitution am Kryostatschnitt (Chang und Hori, 1961) als sehr zuverlässig. Es wurde darauf hingewiesen, daß einfache Formolfixierung der entnommenen Gewebsblöcke nur dann zuverlässige Resultate liefert, wenn diese entsprechend klein sind, so daß eine schnelle Durchfixierung gewährleistet ist. Als unbrauchbar erwiesen sich die Alkoholfixierung sowie die Nachfixierung von Kryostatschnitten in Alkohol oder Formol.
    Notes: Summary The usefulness of several histological methods for studying the blood-brain-barrier by fluorescent labelled gamma globulin was compared. Brain tissue from normal guinea pigs and from a cat subjected to cortical cold injury were used in this study. The best results were obtained with the freezing and drying technique and the section freeze substitution method of Chang and Hori (1961). Simple formalin fixation produced artefacts when the tissue blocks were too big for a fast fixation. Alcohol and mounted cryostat section fixation gave unsatisfactory results.

    Notes: Summary Normally excitable single motor fibers of the frog's sciatic nerve were treated with Acridine orange of low concentration (0.2 Gamma per ml). The storage of the dye begins in the Schwann nuclei. Then the myelin sheath becomes fluorescent in its full extent showing nodal gaps. The staining process could not be influenced by stimulating the fiber. The excitability is not influenced if a stained fiber is kept in darkness but disappears during exposure to the blue light of the fluorescence microscope. Transsection of a fiber is followed by rapid disintegration of the injured internode, beginning with the appearance of Schmitd-Lanterman's incisures and then leading to splitting of the myelin sheath into several lamellas which protrude into the axon. Application of Acridine orange in this stage fails to stain the cut internode, although the proximal internodes show normal fluorescence. The possibility of active incorporation of the dye into the myelin sheath is discussed.

    Zur Mechanik der Markballenbildung bei der Wallerschen Degeneration (1966)

    Notes: Summary Wallerian degeneration was studied in frog single fibers. A new preparation for microscopic observation of peripheral motor fibers in living Rana esculenta was used. The authors studied proximally transected groups of fibers using the polarization technique. The results confirmed that the axon destruction preceds the breakdown of the myelin sheath, and the Schmidt-Lanterman incisures play an important role in the formation of ovoids. Details of the ovoid formation are demonstrated in serial photographs. It is suggested that the incisures of Schmidt-Lanterman are pathways for electrolyte and water transport in Wallerian degeneration.
