Summary 1. Arylmercury, triaryllead, and triaryltin derivatives of N-vinylphthalamic (I) and o- and p-acrylamido (and methacrylamido) benzoic (II) acids were prepared for the first time. 2. The most readily polymerized are the organomercury derivatives, and in order of rate of polymerization we have Hg〉Sn〉Pb. 3. The polymers obtained differ in thermal stability in a way that depends on the linkage [-CO-NH-(I) and-NH-CO-(II)] between the benzene ring and the vinyl group in the monomer and on the nature of the metal in the organometallic monomer. 4. With respect to thermal stability the organometallic polymers studied form the series: Sn〉Pb〉Hg.
