Notes: Use of hard electromagnetic radiation (λ = 0.12 Å) in diffraction experiments, in conjunction with thin crystals in transmission geometry (Laue case), minimizes multiple scattering, often referred to as the 'extinction problem'. A large crystal slab, completely intercepting the incident beam, was used in this experiment. Several structure factors have been measured in LiF and KCl, with greater accuracy than ever before, using the γ-ray spectrometer of the University of Missouri at Columbia. In the case of LiF the results indicates some compression of the valence electron densities, similar to what has been found earlier for NaF. In the case of KCl all reflections agree well with the values calculated from free-atom Hartree-Fock wave functions except for the 004 and 006, which are appreciably weaker than corresponding reflections with similar or identical sin θ/λ values. This result indicates asphericity of the valence electron density. The 111 is also much weaker than the calculated value, indicating that the negative ions are slightly compressed and the positive ions slightly expanded with respect to the free-ion charge densities.

Notes: Abstract We present cross sections for the charged lepton production from the lightest charged superpartner particles predicted by theSU(N, 1) Minimal SUGRA model, either the superpartners of the r.h. charged leptons or the Wino/Higgsino. At least one of these should appear in the decay of theZ, which is produced ine + e −-annihilation-presumably soon at the SLC — or inp $$\bar p$$ collider experiments. A large missing mass and strong deviations from back to back production of lepton pairs (and possibly ae-μ final state) would indicate such charged massive intermediate particles.

Notes: Abstract O. antiqua larvae were given as food to two laboratory populations ofF. polyctena (2000–3000 workers and 2 queens each). The ants did'nt perceive L1–L3 as a prey. But they killed 47% (popul. A) and 77% (popul. B) of the L4–L6 after pulling up the long hairs of larvae.

Notes: Abstract We use sum rules in order to discuss the dynamics of the simplest subconstituent model of weak interactions with elementary spin 1/2 fermions and scalar bosons. Vacuum condensates of the scalars play an essential role and lead to features quite different from QCD. With a certain vacuum structure vector dominance of the composite W-mesons is a good approximation, and we also see a clear signal for massless fermions in the two-point function of composite fermions. Thus such a model is in good agreement with standard phenomenology. Composite Higgs particles are also investigated. The effective interaction is evidently of the gauge type.

Notes: Abstract We discuss a grand unified theory in the framework ofSU(n, 1) minimal supergravity with the Planck mass as the only input mass scale.M W ≈m 3/2 is fixed by radiative corrections to be naturally ≪M P1. Due to the particular form of explicit soft supersymmetry breaking a light singlet can be used to obtain naturally light Higgs doublets and for a new mechanism for radiativeSU (2)×U(1) breaking. The low energy particle spectrum is very restricted withm 3/2≈104 GeV.

Notes: The big success of the reaction injection molding (RIM) process has brought about a marked interest in reacting polymer processing. In the present work, we study the technical feasibility of a continuous process to coat metallic conductors using reacting polymers. In the envisioned system, RIM type reactants are mixed and then injected into a tubular reactor through the center of which we pass the cable to be coated. The predictions of the mathematical model developed show that a feasible process can be designed by adequate control of the heat transfer phenomena. The process needs in general, a low reactor temperature and a high cable temperature.

Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of elemental Sulfur with Halogenated MethanesAt 250°C a reaction between CCl4 and sulfur forms S2Cl2 and CS2 (besides small amounts of S3Cl2 and S4Cl2). CHCl3 and sulfur above 200°C under catalytic influence of AlCl3 are forming HCl, S2Cl2, and CS2; CH2Cl2 and sulfur also are reacting (with AlCl3 or AI as catalyst) to CS2 and HCl. Only at 345°C one gets,CS2, HCl, and H2S from CH3Cl and sulfur. At 160°C forms HBR,BR2, and CS2. Aluminium is necessary for the reaction of CH2Br2 at 250°C with sulfur, forming CS2 and HBr. A mixture of products (CS2,H2S, HBr, CH3SCH3, and (CH3)3SBr) results from CH3 Br and sulfur at 250°C. CH3I and sulfur produce CS2,I2, and H2S at 145°C. The same products are formed from CH2I2 and sulfur with aluminium as catalyst at 175°C.
