A simplified and experimented modification of the well known float method for the isotopic analysis of water is described. It is shown that an accuracy better than 0.01% D-content is easily obtained by means of very simple equipment for the purification of the water samples and for the determination of the floating temperatures. Numerical tables for the calculation of the isotopic composition are given, and the corrections which have to be applied are discussed. Curves of constant density provide the fastest method for the routine evaluation of the D-content from floating temperatures.
