    Notes: Drei Arten mikroporöser Filme werden beschrieben: Lamellare Salzfilme, Aluminiumoxyd und Kieselgel. Während die Schichtenstruktur der Salzfilme durch Sublimation entsteht, bildet sich das Porensystem des Aluminiumoxyds durch Dehydratation der Hydroxyde und das des Kieselgels durch Kondensation der Kieselsäure. Oberflächeneigenschaften und Adsorptionsverhalten der Systeme werden untersucht.

    Notes: By the REFORMATZKY reaction between citral and ethyl bromoacetate, ethyl citrylideneacetate and a partly cristallized bicyclic δ-lactone have been obtained. The lactone, m. p. 64°, not noticed by other workers, has been studied. The saturated dihydro compound, m. p. 36°, has been prepared. Reduction of the two lactones gave the two corresponding monocyclic diols, m. p. 119° and 80° respectively. The diol m. p. 119° has been oxidized with ozone and CrO3 to give a compound C12H20O3.

    Notes: Die Übersicht über die erweiterte Reihe der Hydroxyflavane I-XVIII, zu denen die Catechine (z. B. XIII) gehören, zeigt erneut, daß die gleichzeitige Anwesenheit von Hydroxylen in 7- und 4′-Stellung (IV) für die Selbstkondensation notwendig ist. Das Catechin reagiert bifunktionell und intermolekular; die Reaktion wird verglichen mit der Kondensation von Benzyl-alkohol oder -chlorid und Resorcin bzw. mit der intramolekularen Umwandlung des Resorcin-monobenzyläthers in C-Benzyl-resorcin. Das C-Atom 2 des einen Catechinmoleküls kondensiert sich mit dem C-Atom 6 oder 8 des nächsten sperrt man diese Atome durch Methylierung (XXIII) oder Chlorierung (XXII), so bleibt die Kondensation aus. Das als Acetat in Kristallen isolierte, durch Säure aus Catechin entstehende dimere Catechin hat höchst wahrscheinlich die Konstitution XXVIII. Es ist ein Vertreter der in großer Menge vorkommenden natürlichen Gerbstoffe, deren wichtigster Vertreter der aus XIV entstehende Quebracho-Gerbstoff ist.

    Notes: In this paper the influence of different molecular parameters on the dielectric characteristics of amorphous high polymers has been examined. The dielectric behaviour has been compared for several polymers which carry the same dipole in the side chain, but which differ in the flexibility of the main chain (polymethyl acrylate and polymethyl methacrylate) and in the steric hindrance of the side group (methyl, ethyl, butyl, and isobutyl polymethacrylate). Two dispersion zones have been found in the case of polymethyl methacrylate. These may be attributed to the motions of the segments of the main chain and those of the side chains. For each polymethacrylic ester and in the range of frequencies used in these experiments, only one dispersion zone has been found. The experimental results show that it must be attributed to motions of the side groups, which occur simultaneously with the deformations of the main chain. The observed dielectric dispersion do not seem to be of the same nature as those shown by the study of the mechanical properties. The observed dispersions in high polymeric systems probably have their origin in complexes and various molecular motions which need further investigation.
