Notizen:
In this paper the influence of different molecular parameters on the dielectric characteristics of amorphous high polymers has been examined. The dielectric behaviour has been compared for several polymers which carry the same dipole in the side chain, but which differ in the flexibility of the main chain (polymethyl acrylate and polymethyl methacrylate) and in the steric hindrance of the side group (methyl, ethyl, butyl, and isobutyl polymethacrylate). Two dispersion zones have been found in the case of polymethyl methacrylate. These may be attributed to the motions of the segments of the main chain and those of the side chains. For each polymethacrylic ester and in the range of frequencies used in these experiments, only one dispersion zone has been found. The experimental results show that it must be attributed to motions of the side groups, which occur simultaneously with the deformations of the main chain. The observed dielectric dispersion do not seem to be of the same nature as those shown by the study of the mechanical properties. The observed dispersions in high polymeric systems probably have their origin in complexes and various molecular motions which need further investigation.
