Notizen:
The treatment of the n-layer problem presented in this paper is based on the assumption that the subsoil is bounded by a plane surface and that plane interfaces of arbitrary position subdivide the subsoil into homogeneous isotropic solid layers. In section I recursion formulae are derived for wave-rays which are reflected by one interface and refracted by the others. It is shown in Section Z that a parametric represention of the travel-time function can be found for an arbitrary position of the point source.Section 3 deals with the computation of the travel-time for a given position of a seismometer. The method is based on successive approximations using a Taylor expansion of the travel-time.In sections 4 and 5 a method is presented to compute the front velocities and the positions of the interfaces in the subsoil on the basis of suitable seimic measurements.
