The Raman spectra of the 1,2,3,4-thiatriazol-5-thiolate ion and of its molecular complex with sulphur dioxide were obtained. The excitation of the spectra with different exciting radiations shows that in both cases substantial enhancement of several vibrational modes is present. For the ion the enhancement can be assigned to the π → π* transition at ca 320 nm, whereas for its molecular complex the enhancement of the symmetric SO2 stretching clearly indicates that the enhancement must be assigned to the charge-transfer transition at ca 350 nm. The presence of several enhanced bands in the region of SO2 symmetric stretching is interpreted as being due to SO2 molecules bound to different sites of the ion.
