Beschreibung: Locomotion mode identification is essential for the control of a robotic rehabilitation exoskeletons. This paper proposes an online support vector machine (SVM) optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) to identify different locomotion modes to realize a smooth and automatic locomotion transition. A PSO algorithm is used to obtain the optimal parameters of SVM for a better overall performance. Signals measured by the foot pressure sensors integrated in the insoles of wearable shoes and the MEMS-based attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS) attached on the shoes and shanks of leg segments are fused together as the input information of SVM. Based on the chosen window whose size is 200 ms (with sampling frequency of 40 Hz), a three-layer wavelet packet analysis (WPA) is used for feature extraction, after which, the kernel principal component analysis (kPCA) is utilized to reduce the dimension of the feature set to reduce computation cost of the SVM. Since the signals are from two types of different sensors, the normalization is conducted to scale the input into the interval of [0, 1]. Five-fold cross validation is adapted to train the classifier, which prevents the classifier over-fitting. Based on the SVM model obtained offline in MATLAB, an online SVM algorithm is constructed for locomotion mode identification. Experiments are performed for different locomotion modes and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with an accuracy of 96.00% ± 2.45%. To improve its accuracy, majority vote algorithm (MVA) is used for post-processing, with which the identification accuracy is better than 98.35% ± 1.65%. The proposed algorithm can be extended and employed in the field of robotic rehabilitation and assistance.

Beschreibung: This paper explores the energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem in single-hop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) half-duplex wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). Such an energy efficiency maximization problem is considered in two different scenarios, in which the number of energy-harvesting (EH) sensor nodes are different. In the scenario where the single energy-harvesting sensor node is applied, the modeled network consists of two multiple-antenna transceivers, of which the energy-constrained energy-harvesting sensor node harvests energy from the signals transmitted from the source by a power splitting (PS) scheme. In the scenario of multiple EH sensor nodes, K energy-constrained sensor nodes are applied and the same quantity of antennas are equiped on each of them. The optimization problem is formulated to maximize the energy efficiency by jointly designing the transceivers’ precoding matrices and the PS factor of the energy-harvesting sensor node. The considered constraints are the required harvested energy, the transmission power limit and the requirement on the data rate. The joint design of the precoding matrices and the PS factor can be formulated as an optimization problem, which can be transformed into two sub-problems. An alternating algorithm based on Dinkelbach is proposed to solve the two sub-problems. The convergence of the proposed alternating algorithm, the solution optimality and the computational complexity are analyzed in the paper. Simulation results demonstrate the convergence and effectiveness of our proposed algorithm for realizing the maximum energy efficiency.

Beschreibung: Sulfadimidine (SM2) is a highly toxic and ubiquitous pollutant which requires rapid, sensitive and portable detection method for environmental and food monitoring. Herein, the use for the detection of SM2 of a portable optofluidics-based biosensing platform, which was used for the accurate detection of bisphenol A, atrazine and melamine, is reported for the first time. The proposed compact biosensing system combines the advantages of an evanescent wave immunosensor and microfluidic technology. Through the indirect competitive immunoassay, the detection limit of the proposed optofluidics-based biosensing platform for SM2 reaches 0.05 μg·L−1 at the concentration of Cy5.5-labeled antibody of 0.1 μg·mL−1. Linearity is obtained over a dynamic range from 0.17 μg·L−1 to 10.73 μg·L−1. The surface of the fiber probe can be regenerated more than 300 times by means of 0.5% sodium dodecyl sulfate solution (pH = 1.9) washes without losing sensitivity. This method, featuring high sensitivity, portability and acceptable reproducibility shows potential in the detection of SM2 in real milk and other dairy products.

Beschreibung: Security is a pivotal issue for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which are emerging as a promising platform that enables a wide range of military, scientific, industrial and commercial applications. Traceback, a key cyber-forensics technology, can play an important role in tracing and locating a malicious source to guarantee cybersecurity. In this work a trust-based adaptive probability marking and storage (TAPMS) traceback scheme is proposed to enhance security for WSNs. In a TAPMS scheme, the marking probability is adaptively adjusted according to the security requirements of the network and can substantially reduce the number of marking tuples and improve network lifetime. More importantly, a high trust node is selected to store marking tuples, which can avoid the problem of marking information being lost. Experimental results show that the total number of marking tuples can be reduced in a TAPMS scheme, thus improving network lifetime. At the same time, since the marking tuples are stored in high trust nodes, storage reliability can be guaranteed, and the traceback time can be reduced by more than 80%.

Beschreibung: As one of the most essential technologies, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) integrate sensor technology, embedded computing technology, and modern network and communication technology, which have become research hotspots in recent years. The localization technique, one of the key techniques for WSN research, determines the application prospects of WSNs to a great extent. The positioning errors of wireless sensor networks are mainly caused by the non-line of sight (NLOS) propagation, occurring in complicated channel environments such as the indoor conditions. Traditional techniques such as the extended Kalman filter (EKF) perform unsatisfactorily in the case of NLOS. In contrast, the robust extended Kalman filter (REKF) acquires accurate position estimates by applying the robust techniques to the EKF in NLOS environments while losing efficiency in LOS. Therefore it is very hard to achieve high performance with a single filter in both LOS and NLOS environments. In this paper, a localization method using a robust extended Kalman filter and track-quality-based (REKF-TQ) fusion algorithm is proposed to mitigate the effect of NLOS errors. Firstly, the EKF and REKF are used in parallel to obtain the location estimates of mobile nodes. After that, we regard the position estimates as observation vectors, which can be implemented to calculate the residuals in the Kalman filter (KF) process. Then two KFs with a new observation vector and equation are used to further filter the estimates, respectively. At last, the acquired position estimates are combined by the fusion algorithm based on the track quality to get the final position vector of mobile node, which will serve as the state vector of both KFs at the next time step. Simulation results illustrate that the TQ-REKF algorithm yields better positioning accuracy than the EKF and REKF in the NLOS environment. Moreover, the proposed algorithm achieves higher accuracy than interacting multiple model algorithm (IMM) with EKF and REKF.

Beschreibung: The classifier of support vector machine (SVM) learning for assessing the quality of arteriovenous fistulae (AVFs) in hemodialysis (HD) patients using a new photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor device is presented in this work. In clinical practice, there are two important indices for assessing the quality of AVF: the blood flow volume (BFV) and the degree of stenosis (DOS). In hospitals, the BFV and DOS of AVFs are nowadays assessed using an ultrasound Doppler machine, which is bulky, expensive, hard to use, and time consuming. In this study, a newly-developed PPG sensor device was utilized to provide patients and doctors with an inexpensive and small-sized solution for ubiquitous AVF assessment. The readout in this sensor was custom-designed to increase the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reduce the environment interference via maximizing successfully the full dynamic range of measured PPG entering an analog–digital converter (ADC) and effective filtering techniques. With quality PPG measurements obtained, machine learning classifiers including SVM were adopted to assess AVF quality, where the input features are determined based on optical Beer–Lambert’s law and hemodynamic model, to ensure all the necessary features are considered. Finally, the clinical experiment results showed that the proposed PPG sensor device successfully achieved an accuracy of 87.84% based on SVM analysis in assessing DOS at AVF, while an accuracy of 88.61% was achieved for assessing BFV at AVF.

Beschreibung: A series of graphite oxide samples were prepared using the modified Hummers method. Flake graphite was used as the raw material and the reaction temperature of the aqueous solution was changed (0 °C, 30 °C, 50 °C, 60 °C, 70 °C, 80 °C, and 100 °C). X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectral analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and contact angle tests were performed to characterize the structure, chemical bonding, type, and content of oxygen-containing functional groups of the graphite oxide samples. The results showed that the type and content of each oxygen-containing functional group could be controlled by changing the reaction temperature with the addition of water. As the temperature of the system increased, the degree of oxidation of the graphite oxide samples first increased and then decreased. Too high a temperature (100 °C) of the system led to the formation of epoxy groups by the decomposition of some hydroxyl groups in the samples, causing the reduction of oxygen-containing functional groups between the graphite layers, poor hydrophilic properties, and low moisture content. When the system temperature was 50 °C, the interlayer spacing of the graphite oxide samples was at its highest, the graphite was completely oxidized (C/O = 1.85), and the oxygen-containing functional groups were mainly composed of hydroxyl groups (accounting for approximately 28.88% of the total oxygen-containing functional groups). The high content of hydroxyl and carboxyl groups had good hydrophilic ability and showed the highest moisture content. The sample at 50 °C had better sensitivity to ammonia because of its high hydroxyl group and carboxyl group content, with the sample showing an excellent profile when the ammonia concentration was 20–60 ppm.

Beschreibung: Low visibility and hot smoke environment under fire conditions can largely hamper the related fire rescue processes. Ultrasound obstacle avoidance technology is then useful for guidance. However, the biggest challenge of adopting ultrasound technology comes from accurate distance measurements under the disturbances of high temperature and soot particle concentration. It is critical to measure the propagation speed under the complicated fire conditions. Therefore, in this study, a baffle calibration method was proposed to improve the accuracy of distance measurement of an obstacle. The method is based on two ultrasound measurement systems, while one is used to calibrate the propagation speed of ultrasound based on the fixed distanced baffle and the other is for the dynamic measurement of obstacle distance based on the calibrated speed. The viability of this method on the guided vehicle was confirmed based on the experiments. From its comparison to those existing methods, such as constant speed and temperature compensation methods, it was known from that the proposed baffle calibration method provides the best prediction. It was obtained that the maximum errors based on the baffle calibration method are 2.75% and 2.62% under the two representative fire scenarios, respectively, which are much lower than those of constant speed (7.81% and 8.4%) and temperature compensation methods (10.4% and 5.12%).
