    Description: This book focuses on Luwic languages, bringing together approaches from Indo-European linguistics and language reconstruction and also from other intrinsically related disciplines such as epigraphy, numismatics and archaeology, and shows very clearly how these disciplines can benefit from each other. The volume gathers together the most recent results of investigation in the field, and is the natural extension of recent work completed by a research group on Luwic dialects over a number of years. Among the thirteen contributions, fitting neatly within the Luwian and other Anatolian languages, a rich variety of subjects are covered: epigraphy, grammar, etymology, textual interpretation, and archaeological context.

    Description: Los análisis genéticos afectan a derechos fundamentales, por lo que el uso de esta información debe estar supeditado a vías de control democrático. En la actualidad, la lucha contra grandes delitos, como por ejemplo el terrorismo, aparentemente legitima a invadir derechos antes considerados intangibles. La presente obra, fruto del trabajo multidisciplinar llevado a cabo por juristas, filósofos, biólogos, técnicos y médicos, tiene por objetivo poner de manifiesto cuáles son los problemas ético-jurídicos derivados de la obtención, el análisis y el almacenamiento del ADN, así como sus usos judiciales y extrajudiciales. Ante el difícil equilibrio entre libertad individual y seguridad colectiva, este libro ayuda a comprender los conflictos que subyacen en el manejo de una herramienta informativa tan poderosa como son las muestras y los perfiles del ADN.

    Description: Morir en libertad significa poder elegir el momento y la manera de poner fin a la propia vida, con la ayuda de profesionales del ámbito sanitario, cuando la muerte ya no es la peor de las alternativas. Sin entrar en el debate acerca de qué son la vida buena y la buena muerte, el Observatorio de Bioética y Derecho de la Universidad de Barcelona ha abogado siempre por la despenalización de la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido en determinadas circunstancias, como derechos fundamentales que el Estado debería garantizar a los ciudadanos. Así se refleja en los escritos que el Observatorio ha publicado sobre el tema desde 1994 hasta la actualidad, reunidos en la primera parte de este volumen. Por otro lado, en la segunda parte se reproducen textos y materiales de EXIT-ADMD Suisse Romande, una de las organizaciones que en Suiza facilitan la ayuda al suicidio en un marco plenamente legal, con la voluntad de dar a conocer los fines y el funcionamiento de estas entidades. La información que ofrece Morir en libertad contribuirá sin duda a esclarecer las bases de un debate, muy distorsionado por prejuicios de todo tipo, que afecta tanto a la calidad democrática de la sociedad como al pleno ejercicio de la libertad individual.

    Description: This collection of 23 essays, presented in three sections, aims to discuss women’s studies as well as methodological and theoretical approaches to gender within the broad framework of ancient Near Eastern studies. The first section, comprising most of the contributions, is devoted to Assyriology and ancient Near Eastern archaeology. The second and third sections are devoted to Egyptology and to ancient Israel and biblical studies respectively, neighbouring fields of research included in the volume to enrich the debate and facilitate academic exchange. Altogether these essays offer a variety of sources and perspectives, from the textual to the archaeological, from bodies and sexuality to onomastics, to name just a few, making this a useful resource for all those interested in the study of women and gender in the past.
