Description: This work gathers a series of contributions presented at the 1st International Conference of Geosciences in the CPLP on 14th to 16th May 2012 in the Auditorium of the Rector’s Office of the University of Coimbra. It presents studies by various teams affiliated to different institutions from the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), including technical approaches and innovative research, and the application of scientific knowledge to solving the most pressing problems of our times. These high-interest works document problems and solutions from around the Portuguese-speaking world, revealing the great importance of the concepts, geotechnologies, prospection, geology, engineering and mineral resources for the development, wellbeing and progress of humanity.

It presents works developed by various teams affiliated to different CPLP institutions, reflecting innovative research trajectories that describes and interprets objects and processes taking place inside or on the surface of the earth. The knowledge obtained contributes to the enrichment of traditional areas underpinning the geosciences and also emerging areas, whose limits of analysis are expanding to other planets.

Description: This work brings together a series of contributions presented at the 1st International Conference in Geosciences in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), which took place on 14th to 16th May 2012 in the Auditorium of the Rector’s Office of the University of Coimbra. It presents works produced by various teams affiliated to different institutions of the CPLP, offering innovative educational approaches, aiming at school contexts and at scenarios outside the classroom. It uses not only conventional methods, such as school textbooks, but also fictionalized narratives, without overlooking the educational potential of many of the places located in Lusophone countries, with their enormous heritage value.

Description: This book has been produced as a tribute to the work of Martin Lee on the role of sport in the socio-moral education of young people. After conducting the first UK conference on Children in Sport, founded the 〈em〉Institute for the Study of Children in Sport〈/em〉 at 〈em〉Bedford College of Higher Education〈/em〉 in 1986 and created level 1, 2 and 3 courses on coaching children for the 〈em〉National Coaching Foundation〈/em〉. He also edited a book on Coaching Children in Sport. His course book on Coaching Children in Mini-basketball was produced for international distribution. The study of values has been central in Martin’s research which also embraced such topics as self-concept, leadership, coaching behaviour, and parental influence. In a series of research commissions examined the literature, clarified measurement requirements, identified values activated in sport, and led an international project on fair play. He then ran a survey to show how values influence attitudes directly and through the mediation of achievement goals. Two new instruments arose from this research: the 〈em〉Attitudes to Moral Decision-making in Youth Sport Questionnaire 〈/em〉and the〈em〉 Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2. 〈/em〉These will open up research into gamesmanship, by which competitors seek an unfair advantage without breaking the rules, and into the mechanisms by which moral, competence and status values guide behaviour and create value conflicts. I am also grateful to colleagues at the University of Coimbra for their initiative in gathering the distinguished international scholars who have contributed to this book. Their collective insights will enhance the understanding of socio-moral education through sport and lead to informed and sensitive policy development in both sport and education.

Description: From a first attempt to gather fundamental bibliography for anthropological research in Angola came out in 1983 an interim text. With the contribution of more collaborators and completing and updating this first text now comes this version of "Angola: anthropological bibliography", a working tool that we hope will be useful to many of our research colleagues. The print run has been purposely limited as an update as possible permanent. In this sense all suggestions and possible corrections will be welcomed so that all Africanists who are interested in anthropological research about Angola is available a working tool which is not exhaustive already represents very diverse information in the field of anthropological sciences. In addition to renewing its thanks to her first-hour colleague, Isilda Figueiras, I want to extend them to the researchers who have joined this work and have contributed, each with their share, to the preparation of this bibliography. Description: This homage to Maria Augusta Barbosa on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her birth explores the classical style in the broader, though not diffuse, sense of the term with a series of previously unpublished accounts both by and about this unrivalled figure from the world of Portuguese musicology. The authors, all of whom were related to her in some way through their studies, her teaching or simply friendship, affirm her significance through their important contributions to matters that were included in her teaching, such as themes from classical theory, along with music history, analysis and practice, within the relationship between music, the arts and philosophy. This work opens up new possibilities for the academic exploration of the classical in music, with important names such as Gerhard Doderer, Klaus Niemöller, Gil Miranda, Mário Vieira de Carvalho, Salwa Castelo Branco, Vítor Serrão, and others.

Description: Power neither exists nor stands without symbols. In a space where awareness of ethnic diversity is increasingly tending to revalue the dynamics of the traditional, it is not merely academic to provide a glimpse of the rich symbology elaborated by the different forms of organizing traditional power. This will also be one of the many concrete ways to "gather data to define and illustrate the cultural identity of peoples Bantu, of yesteryear and today," aim "Bantu International Center for Civilization", an organization recently created to study and preserve the cultural heritage common to Africa's Banta. Angola is a field particularly rich in cultural traditions of this kind. In its territory numerous principalities and families were developed in which the power exercised under varied forms of royalty. This diversity sought to account for the selection of exposed objects; In writing texts, however, it was not possible to go beyond the most representative groups: the Kongo (in particular the Woyo subgroup) and the Ovimbundu. Suffering from the vicissitudes of different African histories (pre-colonial, colonial, post-colonial) the symbols of power survived even when confined only to their ritual component. There was even an enlargement determined by the incorporation of acculturated symbols, namely religious ones (crucifix and rosary, among others). The different anthropological collections around the world are in some cases unique testimonies of this "show of power" that only disappeared in appearance as it is still very much alive inside. Some testimonies of these symbols were collected less than half a century ago (M. A. F. de Oliveira), others are reborn from an apparent state of lethargy taking on new expression (see in particular the growing claim of the role of women in the transformation of Angolan society and the female component of power in the tradition of Kongo – M. L. Rodrigues de Areia); still others manifest themselves in the consistent demand that the holders of power assume themselves as defenders of life and what conditions it - a clear reflection of the traditional concept of the charismatic chief (sacred royalty) to whom the fertility of the fields such as that of women was imputed. women, the occurrence of rain as the scourge of drought. The analysis of the testimonies of traditional royals, which are of the past, must not only raise, besides the inference of the symbolization mechanisms resulting from social structures, also from the past, the ever- present question of the "systems of power and the conditions of its formation and transformation" O.
