Abstract: This volume assembles and integrates the wealth of diverse information that is now accumulating in this burgeoning field. The existing and potential therapeutic applications of targeting CA cover a remarkably wide-range of diseases and disorders and have generated increasing and extensive interest in recent years. Its inter-disciplinary approach embraces both the most up-to-date therapeutic application of CA-targeting and the latest research data that will provide a platform for the development of novel applications. The interested audience comprises scientists and clinicians from many relevant disciplines within science and medicine.

Abstract: This book will be the definitive reference on surgery of the subcortical region. It comprehensively discusses all aspects of treatment of subcortical and intraventricular lesions, including neuroanatomy and neuroimaging of the subcortical space, principles of parafascicular subcortical channel-based surgery, common indications and approaches, and focused chapters for common subcortical lesions. The first section of the reference focuses on the intricate anatomy and neuro-imaging of the subcortical space and ventricular system, with special emphasis on intricate white matter tracts and diffusion tractography imaging. The next section of the book discusses principles of both open and parafascicular, channel-based approaches to subcortical and intraventricular lesions, in addition to workhorse approaches to common subcortical compartments. Finally, specific pathological subcortical lesions that can be commonly addressed via parafascicular channel-based approaches, including brain metastases, gliomas, and intracerebral hemorrhage are addressed. Authored by experts in the field of subcortical neurosurgery, this book was developed to provide a unique, comprehensive text for neurosurgeons, neuro-radiologists, and trainees from a variety of specialties interested in evolving minimally disruptive access and treatment of the subcortical space.

Description / Table of Contents: Introduction -- PART 1: How Drugs are Discovered and Developed in the Pharmaceutical Industry -- Introduction to Drugs and Drug Targets -- Background to chemistry of small and large molecules -- Laying the foundations- Drug discovery from antiquity to the twenty first century -- Part II-The drug development pipeline – discovery to testing in humans -- Drug discovery pipeline overview -- Target discovery -- Medicinal chemistry -- Biotherapeutics -- Screening for hits -- Process chemistry and formulation -- Preclinical development -- Part III-The drug development pipeline – clinical trials to marketing authorisation -- Clinical trials -- Regulatory affairs and marketing approval -- Diagnostics and personalized medicine -- Putting it All Together: a drug development case history -- Part IV- The Global Pharmaceuticals Business -- Commercial aspects of drug development -- Challenges and responses -- Part V - Professional Interactions with the Drug Discovery Industry.-Professional Interactions with the Drug Discovery Industry: Technology Transfer Executives -- Recruitment Executives -- Pharmaceutical translators and Interpreters.
Abstract: The Science and Business of Drug Discovery is written for those who want to learn about the biopharmaceutical industry and its products whatever their level of technical knowledge. Its aim is to demystify the jargon used in drug development, but in a way that avoids over simplification and the resulting loss of key information. Each of the twenty chapters is illustrated with figures and tables which clarify some of the more technical points being made. Also included is a drug discovery case history which draws the relevant material together into a single chapter. In recognizing that it is difficult to navigate through the many external resources dealing with drug development, the book has been written to guide the reader towards the most appropriate information sources, including those listed in the two appendices. The following topics are covered: Different types of drugs: from small molecules to stem cells Background to chemistry of small and large molecules Historical background to drug discovery, pharmacology and biotechnology The drug discovery pipeline: from target discovery to marketed medicine Commercial aspects of drug discovery Challenges to the biopharmaceutical industry and its responses Material of specific interest to technology transfer executives, recruiters and pharmaceutical translators .

Abstract: This textbook provides a basic introduction to radiology and imaging along with the minimum required knowledge written from a practical clinical perspective. Presenting essential definitions and critical images, this textbook offers key references in a welcomed concise format, targeting medical students and interns undertaking the USMLE and house staff of any specialty desiring a resource for practical and useful information relevant to and including medical imaging of common diseases and conditions. Organized by signs, symptoms, history, disease, imaging and imaging findings, and clinical service/specialty, this textbook thoughtfully addresses the early challenges faced by medical students and interns preparing for their beginning rotation or internship. Allowing readers to bypass dense radiology books too cluttered with detail, organized by body part instead of clinical relevance, or not inclusive of the latest developments and technologies, this textbook prepares students and house staff to enter and to succeed in this most rapidly evolving field in medicine. The Radiology Survival Kit: What You Need to Know for USMLE and the Clinics is a practical, clinically-oriented textbook offering an early career perspective intended for first through fourth year medical students and house staff, including interns and residents from any discipline, as well as radiology and radiography students and technologists, radiology and ICU nurses, nursing students, radiology administrators, and foreign medical graduates.
