Notes: Comparison of both synthetic and field data shows that considerable suppression of correlation noise can be achieved with the Combisweep technique and with the Encoded Sweep Technique. In the first technique, the spectrum is shaped by superposition of linear sweeps with different frequency range; in the second technique, short sweeps of different polarity are combined to form the “alphabet” of a code.

Notes: Nonlinear sweeps have often successfully been employed in the 1960s. However, this area of sweep technology has been neglected since the introduction of digital recording techniques in the Vibroseis system. Now the advent of computerized recording instruments yields a new economical possibility of forming approximately nonlinear sweeps by combining several linear sweeps with or without time gaps to a “Combisweep”. The total duration of a Combisweep may be as long as the maximum available recording time, for example 32 s.Beside the attenuation of correlation noise, the new method has further merits, such as the weighting of predetermined frequency ranges, in order to effect a certain kind of optimum filtering on the emitter side, or in order to compensate to some degree for frequency dependent absorption. In all these applications the Combisweep is considered as one signal in the correlation process. But by correlating with the individual sweeps or a partial combination of them and by applying automatic switching at predetermined times within the gaps between the individual sweeps additional possibilities arise, such as obtaining in one run with a twenty-four channel recording unit twenty-four traces with small distances between vibrators and geophones for shallow reflections and another twenty-four traces with larger distances for deeper reflections. Various Combisweeps and their applications are presented.

Notes: Abstract Effects of Toxoplasma gondii infection on the host immune responses were investigated at an early stage of infection. The spontaneous generation of chemiluminescence of peritoneal exudate cells was elevated as early as 1 h after infection of mice with the parasite. Significant enhancement of spontaneous chemiluminescence (CL) and increased survival after challenge with relatively virulent toxoplasma were observed in animals infected with avirulent toxoplasma 24 h previously.

Hermite-Interpolation, ausdehnen.
Notes: Abstract In this paper the construction of the Newton interpolation is carried over to several variables in case the interpolation points are contained in a grid. This is frequently the case for finite elements. Coalescence of points, i.e. multiple knots may be included.

Notes: Abstract The oxide Mo4VO14, in its active state, is a partly reduced material with an ``amorphous'' structure. Temperature-programmed methods reveal that the active lattice oxygen gives rise to a desorption signal at 500 K, which is at the lower end of the temperature window for activity in the selective oxidation of n-propanol. The phase is metastable with respect to oxidative crystallisation into isotropic crystals of the title structure occurring at 781 K. Photoemission revealed in the zero bandgap semiconductor oxide of the amorphous state the MO6 octahedra to be distorted and the oxygen pumping activity to be related to oxidation-reduction cycles of metal d-states situated close to the Fermi energy. Structural studies by XRD and HRTEM showed that the oxygen-pumping state is a nanocrystalline modification of the title structure. The relation of the structural motif to the catalytic function is discussed for this compound and for the whole family of systems in the framework of the theory of glass formation.

Notes: Abstract Polycrystalline copper was used as catalyst for the selective oxidation of methanol under stoichiometric reaction conditions for oxidehydrogenation. Temperature- programmed reaction spectroscopy (TPRS) revealed a broad temperature range of reactivity with two distinct maxima for the production of formaldehyde. Phase analysis with thermogravimetry (TG) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) under in situ conditions showed that a phase change occurred between the two maxima for formaldehyde production from bulk Cu2O to metallic copper. Strongly adsorbed methoxy and formate were detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) after prolonged catalytic use. A sub-surface oxygen species and surface OH were identified by XPS. A region of oscillatory behaviour was found in the temperature interval between 623 and 710 K. Multicomponent gas analysis of the reaction products with an ion-molecule reaction mass spectrometer (IMR-MS) allowed to derive a reaction sequence in which both methoxy and formate are necessary as surface species. The most selective state of the catalyst for oxidehydrogenation is the co-adsorption system methanol-oxygen. Oxidation of the surface by excess molecular oxygen leads to total oxidation. The catalyst is finally reduced by excess methanol into an inactive pure metallic form. Sub-surface oxygen segregates to the surface and initiates the activity again by enhancing the sticking coefficient for gas phase species.
