Description / Table of Contents:
Summary The system mercury-dodecylammonium chloride was investigated by means of flotation, surface tension and alternating current polarography in 0,1 N KCl at pH 3–12, in order to determine the influence of the adsorption of dodecylammonium chloride on the flotation of Hg. The flotation was carried out in the mercury model flotation apparatus by Pomianowski and Para. Surface tension was measured by the maximum bubble pressure method. Some adsorption magnitudes (attraction constant of the Frumkin isotherm, adsorption coefficient at maximum adsorption potential, free standard adsorption enthalpy and area per molecule) were determined by means of capacity-potential-and capacity-time-curves. Flotation recovery and surface tension lowering as well as attraction constant and adsorption density reach at pH 10,5 a maximum. This is interpreted by the special hydrophobic effect of anion-molecule-complex, which appears at this pH-value.
Notes:
