    Notes: Summary The hypothetical leaf rust progress curves of 15 genotypes of wheat were generated by integrating the components of slow rusting resistance determined in the glasshouse. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) from the hypothetical and observed leaf rust progress curves were compared. It was found that the hypothetical AUDPC values of all the genotypes studied were smaller than their respective observed AUDPC values. Possible causes for the discrepancies in the observed and hypothetical values are discussed.

    Notes: Based on new experimental data presented for the boiling point elevation of natural sea water solutions, smoothed tabular values are presented for boiling point elevation (BPE), osmotic coefficient, water activity, osmotic pressure, and minimum separation energy to 200°C and 12% sea salt.The concentration of sodium chloride solutions having the same water activities as sea salt solutions is also presented.Rigorous thermodynamics and the equations for strong electrolytes by Bromley (1973) were used for the correlation together with previously obtained heat capacity and enthalpy data and equations. A simplified equation is presented for boiling point elevation.

    Notes: Abstract Crude oil from Eucalyptus globulus and E. citriodora was extracted and the rich components, cineole and limonene were fractionated. The vapours of these oils and fractions were adsorbed onto the soil in one set of germination trials while in the other set a vapour column of volatile oils was maintained above the oil-treated soil. In both sets seed germination, seedling growth, relative growth rate, water content, height and number of leaves of Phaseolus aureus var. ML-267 were compared to those of controls. All parameters were found to be significantly affected. The effect was more pronounced with a combination of eucalyptus oil onto soil and a vapour-rich air column. There was a strong correlation between the vapour concentration and its inhibitory effect.

    Notes: Abstract Six genotypes of potato were compared with two commercial cultivars, Kufri Chandramukhi and Kufri, Chamatkar for their yield and mineral contents (i.e., iron, copper, zinc, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus). There were significant differences amongst different genotypes with respect to yield and mineral contents. The cultivar Kufri Chandramukhi, which gave also significantly highest tuber yield during both years, was found to be richest in copper, zinc and potassium. The genotypes EM/B-1601 and JF-4835 were found to be highest in iron content. The highest quantities of sodium, potassium, and magnesium were detected in the cultivar Kufri Chamatkar. The genotype J.F. 5106 was also found to be rich in magnesium content which was comparable to Kufri Chamatkar. The highest quantities of phosphorus and calcium were found in genotypes J.F. 4835 and EM/B-859 respectively. The genotype J.F. 547 was found to be poorest in iron, copper, zinc, sodium and potassium.

    Notes: This study presents experimental results on the preparation and characteristics of high-density phenol-formaldehyde foams and compares their characteristics with the available patent literature. An extrapolation of the data has been used to identify the relevant process parameters used for the preparation of lower-density foams. The effect of catalyst combination and phenol formaldehyde molar ratio on the ease of foaming and its ultimate strength has been investigated. A total solids refractive index correlation has been developed for following the reaction. The effect of foaming temperature on the density and strength of the foam was also studied.

    Description: Bioactive ferromagnetic ceramics of system x NiO–(3− x )Fe 2 O 3 –52CaO–30SiO 2 –15P 2 O 5 , ( x = 0, 3 mol%) have been prepared in the laboratory using sol–gel technique. Silver nanoparticles coating has been undertaken on the surface of synthesized samples. Comparative study of silver nanoparticles coated and uncoated samples has been undertaken with the help of transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), degradation, drug delivery, hemolysis, antimicrobial, and cell culture studies. XRD patterns indicate the growth of hydroxyl apatite layer on the surface of coated as well as uncoated samples. Ferromagnetic properties of samples have been investigated with the help of vibrating sample magnetometer technique. Samples have shown good response as drug carriers under normal conditions as well as under the influence of magnetic field. Drug release mechanism and mesoporus nature of samples have been investigated with the help of Brunauer–Emmett–Teller technique. Nonreactivity of samples (coated and uncoated) with red blood cells and white blood cells show nontoxic nature of the samples. Coated samples have shown better antimicrobial properties against six different microorganisms, including some resistive strain like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.05 mg/ml as compared to uncoated samples. It has been observed that samples also provide a healthy environment for the growth of MG 63 cell lines. It has been noticed that presence of silver nanoparticles on the surface of samples improve degradation and antimicrobial properties.
