Summary Integral intensities have been measured for the C-O-(P), P=S, and P-S bands in the spectra of potassium, barium, zinc, nickel, and lead dialkyldithiophosphates containing hydrocarbon radicals of various structures. Characteristicity has been established for the integral intensity of the C-O-(P) vibration, and noncharacteristicity for the integral intensities of the P=S and P-S vibrations. The characteristicity of the integral intensity of the C-O-(P) bands is a consequence of the characteristicity of the form of the C-O-(P) vibration. The noncharacteristicity of the P=S and P-S bands indicates noncharacteristicity of the form and frequency of the P=S and P-S vibrations. The dependence of the integral intensities of the P=S, P-S, and C-O-(P) bands on the nature of the metal and the structure of the hydrocarbon radical can be used for reliable identification of dialkyldithiophosphates contained in lubricating oils.
