Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and NMR Spectroscopic Studies of Phosphorus Compounds with Vinyl and Ethinyl GroupsThe synthesis of a series of phosphorus compounds of types CH2 = CHPX2 (X = Hal) and CH2 = CHP(Y)X2 (Y = O, S: X = Hal, OEt) as well as of CH2 = CHPF4. HC ≡ CP(O)F2, and HC ≡ CPF4 is described. Characterization of the new compounds was, especially, by NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, 31P. 19F). The 13C NMR spectra were investigated with regard to a correlation between J(CP) and the s-character of the carbon-phosphorus bond.

Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of (Dichlorophosphinyl)methanesulfonyl ChlorideSubstitution of chlorine by fluorine in (dichlorophosphinyl)methanesulfonyl chloride (2) Cl2P(O)CH2SO2Cl leads to the fluorides F2P(O)CH2SO2X (X = Cl, F); their reactions leading to the fluorophosphorane F4PCH2SO2F and fluorophosphate anions of the type [F5PCH2SO2X]- and [O(F)P(O)CH2SO2X]- (X = Cl, F) were investigated. Hydrolysis of 2 yields the acid (HO)2P(O)CH2SO2OH, from which esters and amides have been derived. The conversion of the esters to α,β-unsaturated sulfonic acid derivatives via the Horner-Wittig reaction is also described.

Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic Studies of Alkylene/Alkylidenebis(phosphonic Dihalides) and- bis(fluorophosphoranes)Chlorine-fluorine exchange in the bis(phosphonic dichlorides) Cl2P(O) - X- P(O)Cl2 (1a-c) with AsF3 furnisches the bis(phosphonic difluorides) F2P(O)—X—P(O)F2 (2a-c). Reaction of 2a-c with SF4 leads to bis(tetrafluorophosphoranes) F4P—X—PF4 (3a-c) (X = CH2, CH2CH2, trans-CH=CH). Additional methods of synthesis are indicated for compound 3a (X = CH2) which are based on the cleavage of the Si—C bond with PF5 in the Si-C bonded precursors [Me2SiCh2]2 and Me3SiCH2PF4. The NMR spectra of compounds 2 and 3 are discussed.

Notes: The Mass spectral fragmentation processes for a number of alkyl and aryl subtituted phosphinyl and phosphonyllk halides and their thio analogs are discussed with respect to two intramolecular rearrangment processes. The first is aryl fluorine transfer to phosphorus and the second concerns a rearrangement depicted as follows, i.e. a reverse Arbuzov reaction RR′XP=S→RXP—S—R′. Both pathways are supported by evidence obtained form metastable ions and mass analyzed ion kinentic energay spectra. The previously observed phenomenon of subtituent coupling is also describedc where ita occurs in the phosphinyl compounds. The mass spectra of a number of mixed fluoro-pebtafkuorophenyl phosphorances are also discussed.
