    Description: The rapid growth of aquaculture is accompanied by increased discharge of nutrient-rich wastewaters into rivers and coastal waters leading to eutrophication and deterioration of water quality. Seaweeds are suitable candidates to reduce dissolved inorganic nutrient concentration discharged through aquaculture effluent, and can improve water quality and allow for sustainable aquaculture. In this study the de-eutrophication ability of Ulva reticulata was investigated in a shrimp hatchery in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia by evaluating its ability to remove nutrients from shrimp brood stock effluent (SBE) in a batch culture system. The biofiltration ability of U. reticulata was confirmed by the significant reduction in nutrient concentrations during a 12 day period. The concentration of ammonium-nitrate (NH3-N) was reduced by 100 % (after 12 h), nitrite (NO2-N) by 100 % (after 18 h), orthophosphate (PO4-P) by 89 % (after 12 days) and nitrate (NO3-N) by 33 % (after 12 days). An 18.5 % increase in biomass of the seaweed over the experimental period was also observed. The mean relative growth rate (RGR) of U. reticulate reached 1.6±0.1 % d-1.The U. reticulata grew well in SBE, producing protein (6.1 ±1.1 %) and carbohydrate (39.9 ±4.5 %). Carbohydrate (P〈0.05) and protein(p〉0.05) content in seaweed growing in SBE were higher than seawater. The results of this study indicate that U. reticulata can be used directly as an effective biofilter for nutrient removal from shrimp hatchery effluent.

    Description: In this paper the Vacuity Index (VI), Fullness Index (FI) and Food Preference Index (FPI) for the stomach contents of Pomadasys kaakan were evaluated to assess the quantity and kind of food which this fish consumes in the Persian Gulf. A total of 227 specimens were collected from fishing trawlers or landings from November 2005 to September 2006. 24.7% of stomachs were full, 11.9% were semi-full and 63.4% were empty. The seasonal average of VI was 77.4, 44.6, 80.0 and 54.0 % for autumn, winter, spring and summer, respectively. The overall FI was 36.6 with seasonal averages of 22.6, 55.4, 20.0 and 46.0 in autumn, winter, spring and summer, respectively. The main stomach contents were crustaceans (esp. crab & shrimp), fish, mollusks (bivalves, gastropods and cuttlefish), stomatopoda, brittle stars, Lingula sp. and sea weeds. The estimated FPIs for crustaceans were 77.7, fish 32.1, mollusks 28.6 and echinoderms 18.8 %. Overall, the results show that this fish is a relatively frugal species which consumes crustaceans as main food and has adopted itself with ecological changes of the Persian Gulf.

    Description: The aim of the project was to assess production per hectare and other growth indices of Fenneropenaeus merguiensis and F. indicus in Zarabzy farm in earthen ponds of Tiab area, Hormozgan province. We used two treatments, one for each species three replications each. Post larvae of the species were stocked at density 20 ind/m2. Shrimp were fed by imported pellet on the basis of standard feeding table. In order to obtain the growth rate and calculate daily feeding status, the shrimp were biometrically assessed twice a month. We also measured physic-chemical factors of water including pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen and salinity twice a day. The recorded mean results of survival rate in treatment 1 and 2 were 10% and 64%, respectively. Final product and mean body weight in treatment 1 and 2 were 337.5 and 1526Kg/ha and 16.97 and 11.44g, respectively. The result of final product, survival rate and F.C.R. were above standards. The result of physico-chemical tests showed the parameters were higher than standard which had negative impact on production in both treatments. The results showed that propagation of F. merguiensis is feasible and it can be cultured provided that the suitable food is made available.

    Description: Regarding to breeding the Litopenaeus vannamei, a total of 126 pairs of broodstocks were imported from Hawaii to Iran in 2004 and 2005 , and then transferred to the Bandargah Research Station in Bushehr. The female broodstocks were ablated, and were feeded 3 times per day with cuttlefish ,small size shrimp and Nereis worm with a ratio of 30% body weight .The water exchange were done 3 times per day. During the years 2004 and 2005 a total 1700000 naupli were produced of which 772000 specimens of pl13 and pl7 were harvested and then transferred to Helleh Site for carrying out the next culture project. The average naupli and postlarvae were 170000 and 92000 in proportion to each broodstock. Also the mean survival rate was estimated 54%.

    Description: The monitoring of the harmful Alga blooms (Red tide) in the the Khuzestan coastal waters Provinces was carried out monthly at 5 stations during 2010 to 2011. The results revealed that, Coclodinum polykrikoides blooms was not occurred during investigation times , Phytoplankton composition species were included of 45 species of diatoms (%91), 9 species of Dinoflgellates (7. 52%) and Cyanophytes with one species (1.88%).. Furthermore significant different values of nutrients were recorded. Different values of NH4 were measured for different months. In total, the measured ratio of N: P in all months were lower than Redfield Ratio (16:1) in which subsequently the environmental condition was not suitable for bloom of C. polykrikoides.

    Description: This study is a part of the national and technology master plan entitled "Attain to technical knowledge of specific pathogen free shrimp production and cut off to dependence on foreign products". The goals of this work were to assess the environmental effects of Specific Pathogen Free shrimp production complex on surrounded region in Persian Gulf (Shoghab) research station in Bushehr city. The environmental impacts were assessed in Persian Gulf (Shoghab) research station in Bushehr city by usage of simple checklist for impacts prediction, and scaling check list for assessment during Feb 2012 till Sep 2014. Flushing the effluents to the sea is the biggest concern of this project that can resulted in health impacts on aquatic and human communities that can be avoided by treatment. Low diversity in activities beside lack of environmental sensitive elements in the region leads us to use of scaling check list for impact assessment. Environmental grade of each activity can be achieved by stratification of them according to their intensity, significance and scale. We reached +320 and -198 for positive and negative points respectively that sounds a clear yes for execution choice.
