The self-dual spin connection is used as primary field variable in the determination of space–time geometries which satisfy the Einstein field equations. We find that the simplest nontrivial Ansatz on the self-dual spin connection produces a space–time of the Kasner-type. In the case of gravitational instantons, an analogous form of the self-dual spin connection is shown to determine conformally flat space–times.
