Notes:
The measured viscosity of polymer solutions varies with the magnitude of the applied shearing stress. In this paper a modified Rouse model of a polymer molecule (which has some stiffness) is used, and the diffusion equation is solved with respect to the co-ordinates system moving with the polymer molecule. Results indicate: (1) The above phenomena is a natural consequence of the fact that the molecules are caused to rotate by the shearing action. (2) This is the same mechanism with the dynamic viscosity caused by the applied periodic shearing stress.
