The composition of Bi(NO3)3 · 5 H2O was ascertained and its chemical and physical properties are described. The thermal reactions were studied by means of isobaric decomposition of the compound, by differential thermal analysis etc. Reaction products were analysed and their infrared and X-ray spectra recorded. Two basic bismuth nitrates were found to exist as intermediary decomposition products: [Bi6O6]2(NO3)11(OH) · 6 H2O and [Bi6O6](NO3)6 · 4 H2O.

Für das neutrale Salz, dessen Eigenschaften mitgeteilt werden, konnte die Zusammensetzung Bi(NO3)3 · H2O gesichert werden.Das thermische Verhalten des Bi(NO3)3 · 5 H2O wurde mittels isobarem Abbau, Aufheizversuchen und Differentialthermoanalyse untersucht und die Zersetzungsprodukte mit Hilfe von chemischen Analysen, Röntgenaufnahmen und Infrarotspektren charakterisiert.Als Reaktionsprodukte treten zwei basische Wïsmut(III)-nitrate der formalen Zusammensetzung [Bi6O6]2(NO3)11(OH) · 6 H2O und [Bi6O6](NO3)6 · 4 H2O, auf.
