Description / Table of Contents:
By means of high-voltage paper ionophoresis, the isolation has been achieved of kinetically stable mixed-ligand complex ions of the type [MeIV ClnBr6-n]2-, with MeIV = Ir, Os, Pt, Re; n = 0, 1,…,6, from equilibrium solutions. The investigation of the individually prepared members of these complex sequences has shown successive variation of their properties on substituting Cl for Br. The migration velocities in the electrical field decrease, the maxima of absorption spectra are shifted to higher wave lengths, and the lattice constants (of the Rb salts) increase. Using radioactive nuclides, all components of the chloro-bromo equilibrium system of Ir(IV) have been quantitatively estimated. Several stability constants have been determined. The [IrBr6]2- complex ion has a 170-fold stability compared with [IrCl6]2-.
Notes:
