The Zeiselmethod for quantitative determination of alkoxygroups may be also applied to the determination of Si—OR groups. In presence of phenol and red phosphorus boiling HI cleaves the Si—OR group quantitatively forming Si—OH and RI. The alkyliodide is converted with Br2 to BrI and alkylbromide; BrI is oxydized with excess Br2 to iodate which can be determined by titration (KI and n/lo Na2S2O3).

Die Zeiselsche Methode zur quantitativen Bestimmung von Alkoxylgruppen läßt sich auf die Bestimmung der SiOR-Gruppe ausdehnen. Siedende Jodwasserstoffsäure spaltet in Anwesenheit von Phenol und rotem Phosphor die SiOR-Gruppe quantitativ in SiOH und RJ. Das Alkyljodid wird mit Br2 in JBr und Alkylbromid Überführt, JBr durch Überschüssiges Br2 zum Jodat oxydiert und dieses durch Titration (KJ; 0,1 n Na2S2O3) bestimmt.
