Asteranes, V. Synthesis of Tricyclo[3,3,1,02,8]nonane DerivativesStarting from either cyclohex-3-enylacetic acid or various bicyclo[3,3,1]nonane derivatives, ring closure to the tricyclo[3,3,1,02,8]nonane system can be achieved by decomposition of the corresponding diazo precursors. The thermal isomerisation of tricyclo[3,3,1,02,8]non-3-ene (3) yields bicyclo[3,1,1]nona-2,7-diene (4). This 1,5-hydrogen migration, which requires an activation energy of 32.6 kcal/mole, explains the structure and formation of the diolefinic side products encountered in the Wolff-Kishner-reduction of triasteranone 1 to triasterane 2.
Notes:
